Sunday, the 26th of April saw a strong contingent of 7 Shettleston Harriers make their way to the UK’s biggest race- the London Marathon. Many of us may have been cheering from home and may also have spotted them on TV. Shettleston athletes recorded some incredible results, which we definitely think are worth shouting about!
Weynay Ghebresilasie produced the race of his life at the London Marathon, setting a new Scottish record with a world-class time of 2:06.59. During a superbly executed run, he passed through 10km in 29.55 and recorded a half-marathon split of 63.14, a personal best. A truly outstanding performance on the biggest stage.

His clubmate Brogan Wallace also delivered a masterclass, executing her race plan to perfection to smash her PB. Finishing 6th female in the mass start, Brogan recorded 2:35.01, a new club record, and secured 2nd place in the Scottish Championships behind Eilish McColgan.

Weynay’s performance places him in the top six marathon times ever by a British athlete, and he improved the previous Scottish record of 2:08.14, held by Calum Hawkins, by over a minute. He finished 13th overall in a world-class field, taking 3rd place in the British Championships and 1st place in the Scottish Championships.
Weynay and Brogan were not alone in London, with a number of Shettleston Harriers athletes also taking part and achieving strong performances, rounding off a remarkable day for the club.
Suzi Blake 3:08.25
Luke Howard 2:32.27
Angus Lindsay 2:40.31
Max McKee 2:34.37
Ross Noble 4:25.15
A huge well done to all of the Shettleston Harriers who ran in London!
