With the National Age Group and Senior Championships on the horizon, it was excellent to see some of our younger members take the opportunity to compete at the Kilbarchan Open Graded Meeting last Wednesday.
Rio Biddlecombe (U14) made a real breakthrough over 800m, smashing his PB to record 2:16.57 and take first place. Also taking first place was Daniel McNair in the U12 75m Sprint, with a time of 10.87.

Scottish Records were confirmed this week for two of our members – congratulations to Weynay and Joseph.
- Marathon – Weynay Ghebresilasie: 2:06:59, set at the London Marathon – Senior Record
- Long Jump – Joseph Lanahan: 6.57m (+1.4), set at the LAAA Championships – U15 Record
Great to See Stuart Back
It is always good to catch up with members who have moved away, and it was great to see Stuart Gibson when home from Australia.
Stuart was part of a very strong Shettleston squad in the early 2000s, gaining Scottish vests and, after moving down under, gaining international honours for Australia. He is about to move into the M50 age group and was delighted to take his new club vest and top back home with him.
We look forward to hearing how he gets on in his new club kit!
National Age Group Championships
This weekend saw the Age Group Championships take place at Grangemouth, with great success for the club across different age groups.
Lots of PBs and medals saw club members amass 5 golds, 3 silver and 1 bronze in a highly competitive environment. Ranked 5th out of 46 teams is a great credit to our athletes and coaches.
Gold medal performances came from the Lanahan brothers, Joseph and Abraham, with both jumping 7m in the Long Jump, with Abraham also taking Gold in the Triple Jump.
Lucas McDonald also took Gold in the U16 Triple Jump.
Middle-distance runners made an impact at the championships, with Zoe Roberts taking Gold in the U16 800m, while both Naod Woldeselassie and Rio Biddlecombe took Silver over 800m and 1500m in the U16 age group.
Sprinters were also in the mix, with Emily Fawkes taking Silver in the 200m and Molly Brown taking Bronze in the 100m.
Medals are important, but the 22 PB performances are a testament to the effort our athletes and coaches have put in over the summer season. Well done to everyone who competed.

International Return for Eilidh
Eilidh Bell made a return to the international arena over the weekend, competing for Scotland in the Antrim Coast Half Marathon.
It was great to see Eilidh back in action after a number of injuries. She helped Scotland finish 4th in the team event, running 78:23.
In the supporting 5km, Fin Dyer recorded 15:24.
On the comeback after having her baby, Hannah Terrance finished 1st in a triathlon in Troon on Sunday.
Aquathlon Success
It has shaped up to be another good weekend of running and sporting action, with one of our members competing in an aquathlon in Gourock on Sunday.
Whilst the event is not athletics-based, it was great to see our member doing so well in the run section of the event, topping the table with a 15:44 run leg over 4.5km and an overall time of 28:42.
