GAA Scottish 10,000m Championships and GAA Sprints Gala
Moving back to the Central Belt and our home track on Friday and Saturday, the GAA meetings saw over 20 of our athletes compete across the two days. Friday night saw Tom Porter tackle the Scottish 10,000m Championships, finishing 14th in a time of 34:06.45. Zoe Roberts confirmed her position as the top ranked U16 girl in Scotland over 800m, recording 2:14.51 in her first outdoor run of the season. With Glasgow seeing sunshine on Saturday, our sprinters and hurdlers took advantage of the good conditions at the Sprint Gala, recording PBs and season’s bests over various distances.

Junior, Hill and Cross Country Success
Rio Biddlecombe finished off his primary education with a fantastic win at the Scottish Primary Cross Country Championships (P7) in Kirkcaldy. By all accounts it was a very close race, with Rio taking the win by 1 second. A great run by this young man, who is making excellent improvements. His club mate Dominic Boyle was also in action, finishing 10th.
Moving to Sunday, Rio continued his good run of form, finishing 2nd in the Lomond Hill Race, which is part of the Scottish Junior Hill League. Euan Grant Pantrey finished 9th in the U16 event. The good news continued when we heard that Ellie Ryan won the Scottish Disability Cross Country title for our age group.

Also over the weekend, a number of young athletes travelled to the Springburn H event, Junior Jack Road Races, with great success. Joseph Paterson (3rd), Alba White (3rd) and Naod Woldeselasie finished 2nd.
Devil of the Highlands
Scottish Internationalist Mike Deason retained his Devil o’ the Highlands 42 mile title. Mike is one of the best ultra runners in Scotland and the UK and, while some of his club mates were due to run the London Marathon the following day, he ran the 42 mile race in 5hrs 39mins 27secs.
Mike was originally from New Mexico in the USA and came to Scotland to study for a PhD and stayed. He had a great career on the track (3km steeplechase) and was part of the strong Shettleston team on the road and country in the mid 2000s before moving to ultra events.
The Devil of the Highlands is a 42 mile race held on the top half of the West Highland Way, from Tyndrum to Fort William. It includes 6,500 feet, almost 2,000 metres of climb, and has a 12 hour cut off time.
