It was another busy weekend for Shettleston Harriers, with athletes representing the club across Scotland and England in events ranging from national championships to league competition.
English Championships Experience for Emily
Emily Fawkes travelled south to Bedford to compete at the English Championships, gaining valuable experience against some of the country’s best athletes.
Emily clocked 58.52 seconds in her 400m heat before returning to record a personal best of 25.43 seconds over 200m. Competing at this level is an invaluable experience and another important step in her development.
Zoe Continues Her Outstanding Season
Zoe Roberts’ remarkable season continued at the Pursuit 5000 meeting in Stirling, where she produced another outstanding performance to win the invitational 800m.
Her winning time of 2:10.84 is another impressive run from the talented Under-16 athlete, who continues to enjoy an exceptional summer season.

Several senior athletes also competed over 5000m, with Tom Porter producing an excellent personal best of 15:16.92. Gerry Pelegri recorded 16:50.61, while Alex Manley crossed the line in 17:51.65.
Strong Finish to the National League Season
The final Scottish National League fixture of the season took place in Aberdeen on Sunday.
Although the club travelled north with a smaller team than usual, those who competed produced a series of excellent performances despite strong headwinds and damp conditions throughout the day.
A special thank you goes to the club for supporting both athletes and officials with travel grants, helping make the long journey to Aberdeen possible.
Among the standout performances were:
- Gerard Gontor won the Under-18 110m Hurdles in 15.37 seconds (-2.1), a performance that currently ranks him second in Scotland this season. He also ran 12.43 seconds in the 100m.
- Zac Hutton claimed victory in the High Jump with a clearance of 1.72m.
- Abraham Lanahan won the Triple Jump with an impressive 13.99m (+0.7) before also running 24.32 seconds in the 200m.
- Viktoria Tennant finished second in the 200m, clocking 25.97 seconds into a headwind.
It has been another successful league campaign for the club, competing across the CSSAL, Youth Development League and Scottish National League throughout the summer.
The National League season concluded with Shettleston Harriers finishing ninth overall out of 32 clubs, while the men’s team secured an excellent sixth-place finish. These achievements are only possible thanks to the commitment of our athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and parents, whose hard work continues to drive the club forward.

Harriers on the Hills
John Duffy was back racing in the hills last Wednesday, proudly wearing the Shettleston Harriers vest at the Kilpatrick Kapers Bog & Burn Race. Competing in extremely wet conditions, John produced an excellent run to finish third in the M60 category.
Shettleston Harriers remains committed to supporting athletes who wish to compete in hill running, and we’re delighted to see the club represented across all areas of the sport. If you’re interested in racing on the hills in Shettleston colours, please get in touch: we’d be delighted to support you.
Looking Ahead
The final league fixture of the summer takes place next weekend at Grangemouth with the CSSAL. One of the unique aspects of the competition is that athletes from Under-12 through to Masters level all compete together, making it a fantastic occasion for the whole club.
We wish everyone representing Shettleston Harriers the very best of luck.
