Linwood Open Graded Meeting, Tuesday 14th April

The first Open Graded meeting of the summer saw a number of PB performances from Shettleston’s young athletes. It was far from a summer evening, with constant rain making conditions unpleasant for everyone. The only blessing was the gentle winds.

Fast and Flat 6, Linlithgow | Xcite Leisure Centre

Moving to Saturday, a large group of 22 members travelled to Linlithgow to compete over the fast 5km course. The top finisher for the club was Jamie Burns in 14:19.2, while Clare Stewart was the first female home with a PB of 17:11.8.

It was great to see so many PB performances across the field, including strong runs from athletes also representing Strathclyde University. Four young athletes also competed in the supporting 4 x 1km relay, finishing 8th against much older competition and gaining valuable experience.

Conditions were again challenging, with a strong wind impacting performances. Jamie Burns led the A race for much of the way before the conditions took their toll.

National League, Grangemouth

For once the sun shone at a meeting this year, although conditions were still not ideal, with wind speeds above legal limits for many events.

A special mention goes to Lachlan Oates, who competed across three distance events in a busy day. It was also great to see Abraham Lanahan return to competition following injury.

Thank you to all officials, coaches and parents who made the trip to support the athletes.

Manchester Marathon

With the marathon season in full swing, three Shettleston athletes travelled to Manchester. New member Daniel Munro impressed with 2:40.54, while David Houston (M40) recorded 3:04.51 and regular parkrun contributor Lee Mitchell (M50) ran 3:39.37.

Former member Ben Johnson, who spent time in Scotland in 2014, ran an excellent 2:31.28.

Next week sees London take centre stage, with Brogan Wallace and Weynay Ghebresilasie expected to be to the fore. Good luck to all athletes taking part.

Dumyat Junior Hill Race

In another busy weekend, some of our younger members competed at the Dumyat Junior Hill Race, part of the Scottish Junior Hill Running League.
