With the track season starting and action from the marathon &10km season Shettleston athletes had very busy over the weekend all over the UK and further afield .

Grangemouth was the venue for the first National League event which has replaced the Men’s/Ladies and U/20 League in Scotland. With over 26 clubs signed up it is hoped this will improve the level of competition.

Aidan Quinn continued his great from to move to 2nd  on our all time on club rankings for the Triple Jump with a jump of 15.85 at the Bray Clay International Meeting in Azusa in the USA


Sunday (16/4) saw Grangemouth as the venue for the popular Round the Houses 10km. Daniel Bradford continued his great form winning the race from over 800 people and also won the British M35 10k title.

Results : Daniel Bradford 31.03, Paul Sorrie 34.43, Michael Paxton 34.53, Ronnie Strachan 35.43 

Moving South, a number of Shettleston athletes were making their first attempts at the marathon distance in Manchester with great success .

In particular, Fergus Donnelly  (2.37.44) ,Scott McKelvie (2.47.34),Dan Lowe (2.53.41),Chris Harper(3.52.25) and Hannah Terrance (3.00.38) all running this distance for the first time will be very happy with their times.

Fionnuala Ross will be slightly disappointed with her time of 2.44.52 after posting fast times over the ½ marathon distance in recent weeks.

Lydia Woldeselassie travelled to Coventry this weekend to gain her international licence for her T35  category and for events at the Coventry Spring Meeting .With PB performances over 100m (19.64) ,Shot and discus it was a very successful weekend for this young lady.

ParkrunsWins across the country.

Peter Avent showed no sign soon of vacating that podium position at the Edinburgh Parkrun with a fast time of 15.11 for the win. Meanwhile in Coventry John Duffy posted a sub 20 min run for 23rd place in 19.57.

Back up to Aviemore, a popular holiday destination in over the Easter holidays, saw John Craig win in a time of 18.33.

At Strathclyde Parkrun, Mark Mckelvie took first place in a time of 15.26, one of the fastest times across the UK that weekend. Kirsty Mann edges closer to the sub 19min marker with a time of 19 min 18 sec for second lady.

Gary Turner ran a respectable 19.41 on his return to fitness at Linwood Parkrun. Gary is a former accomplished track runner like his brother Matthew and both are often seen competing at the Highland Games across the country each year.

At Tollcross Parkrun, David Murphy ran 22.57 for 14th place.

A trio of Shettleston vets were in action at Victoria Park with Jethro posting a not too shabby 17.01 for 4th place, Gerard Pelegri in 17.48 and Duncan Mccauley in 18.56. Rowan Lennox completed the club’s finishers in a time of 23.56.

At Springburn Parkrun, Evelyn Struthers finished first lady in a time of 22.37.

At Fort William Parkrun there was only one winner again with Tom Owens across the line in 17.01 for first place.

Finally, at Queen’s Parkrun saw Susan Breckenridge finish in a time of 26.32.
