The Cross Country season got off to slow start for the club with this weekend testing the resources of the club to the fullest. The venue for the West District Cross Country Relays was the tried and tested course at Kilmarnock and it was more like an early spring day than the downpour of last year.

Sunday saw our older athletes competing at the Great Scottish Run 10k and 1/2 Marathon
Jamie Burns repeated history when he claimed a win at the Great Scottish Run 10km. The question was asked, who has won one of the junior races on the Saturday and went on to win a senior race on a Sunday – Answers on a postcard to club secretary. Jamie ran a very controlled race to win in an excellent time of 29.55 on a very testing course from club mate Taha Ghafari who ran 30.19. Both boys have been in excellent form and they lead home Ross Good Giffnock and the legend who is Chris Thomson- Olympic runner ,European medallist, who was making his last appearance in Scotland. Great day for the club with the Blue and Gold vest at the front in such a high profile event. They were also joined in the race by Stephen Clarke (41.16) and Graeme Brown (48.1) who ran a Personal Best
Follow on from the 10km the club had 29 athletes in the Great Scottish Run ½ Marathon. We had 3 ladies in the top 10 of the ladies section – Brogan Wallace (79.10) who finished an excellent 3rd lead home Aoife Carr (80.16 ) and ladies captain, Avril Mason (81.58).
First home in the men’s race for the club was new member, James Wooton, who finished 8th in a time of 69.14
It was great to see such a great turnout and new faces in the club vest

Another congratulations is due to former member, Nicky Devlin of Aberdeen FC, who at the age of 30 has been picked for the Senior Scottish Football Squad. Nicky was an excellent young athlete with the club around 2006-08 running 2.06.34 (800m ) and 58.38 (400m) as an U/15 athlete. We know he still talks about his time with the club with fond memories
