Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

As the curtain falls on the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, we would like to congratulate our two club representatives who proudly wore Scotland colours on the biggest stage.

Chris Bennett brought an outstanding athletics career to a close with a superb 5th place finish in the Commonwealth Games Final in his home city. It was a fitting end to a fantastic competitive career, and we were delighted to hear Chris announce during his post-race interview that he is looking forward to moving into coaching. We know his knowledge and experience will be a huge asset to the next generation of athletes.

Congratulations also go to Ellie Stone, who made her Commonwealth Games debut as an individual athlete. Competing at a home Games is an incredible achievement, and we are sure the experience will play an important role in her continued development as one of Scotland’s exciting sprint talents.

While our athletes were competing on the track, Shettleston Harriers members were making a huge impact behind the scenes. Over the past month, the club contributed around 940 hours of volunteering in support of the Summer of Sport and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

From community engagement events across Glasgow to supporting the athletics programme at Scotstoun Stadium, our volunteers, coaches and young athletes helped showcase the very best of Scotland, Glasgow and Sehttleston Harriers. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and willingness to give up their time ensured thousands of people had the opportunity to experience athletics and be part of an unforgettable summer of sport.

To everyone who volunteered, represented the club or simply came along to support, thank you. The contribution made by Shettleston Harriers throughout the Games is something the whole club can be incredibly proud of.
