Weynay Represents GB & NI in Birmingham
Weynay Ghebresilasie had a nightmare of a time as he pulled on the GB & NI vest for the first time at the European Athletics Championships Marathon in Birmingham on Sunday.
Following successful training in Kenya, supported by Scottish Athletics and the club, Weynay developed a respiratory infection prior to the event. Despite this, he started the race, with the honour of pulling on the GB & NI vest clearly meaning a great deal to him.
It was clear from the first lap of the seven-lap, very hilly course that all was not well, and Weynay eventually withdrew from the race around the 20km mark.
Everyone at Shettleston wishes Weynay a speedy recovery.
