The 41st Annual Shettleston Open Graded Meeting supported by Milnbank Housing Association was blessed with excellent conditions and fantastic events. The club would like to thank all the officials, athletes, parents and club members who work hard to make these events successful.

Provisional results are now available at this link and the club would like to apologise for the technical issues we had producing them last night. The new photo system put in place by the cooperation of Shettleston ,Kilbarchan, Giffnock North and Inverclyde AC was being used for the first time at such a large event. This partnership between these clubs now means we have a system which can be used in the West of Scotland. It is also  an example how clubs can work to together to make things happen.

The highlight events of the first night of the two series open-graded meeting was the Alex Naylor Memorial 3000m, Derek  McLean Memorial 800m heats (U/15 boys) and the Adrian Callan Memorial 800m(U/15 girls)

The Alex Naylor 3000m saw a win for Duncan Robinson  (8.17.78) of Giffnock North) GB U/23 internationalist who outkicked Calum Tharme (8.19.66 PB) of Gala Harriers ,Scottish University 5000m champion, with Owen Miller (8.21.76) of Fife AC,Para Olympic Gold medallist 3rd.

Thank you to Alison Thewliss (MP) and John Mason (MSP) who both were present throughout the night and made the presentations to the prize winners.

The Cream of Scotland travelled to Crownpoint to compete in the two U/15 Memorial Races from Inverness in the North ,Edinburgh in the East and of course all over the Central Belt .The finals are due to take place on the 6th September. Heat one of the Derek McLean races saw the fastest 800m (U/15) times record this year as Angus Wilkinson (East Kilbride)  2.01.28 and Luke Culliton 2.01.57 (Falkirk)  battle it out just with Angus piping  Luke on the line. Heat two saw a win for Calum Dick (Giffnock N) 2.03.33 just ahead of Joshua Mungan (Kilbarchan ) 2.03.94. What a final we are in store for! .With 11 boys out of the 14 who started recording PB performances, it shows the quality and benefit of racing. This was the 31st running of the Derek McLean race with the record of 1min 59.6 going all the way back to 1989 with Allan O’Hara of Clydebank AC record this time. It may go this year ?

The first running of the Adrian Callan saw excellent racing over the two heats. Adrian was a member of both Shettleston Harriers and Springburn Harriers over a long career. Starting as a young boy in Springburn before moving to Shettleston in 90’s .There he contribute to an amazing 33 National individual & team medals ,competing in the European Club Championships and throughout the UK over various distances. The club is grateful to the Callan family for donating the trophy for the race. The Adrian Callan Memorial trophy was first presented to the winner of the U/20 1500m Scottish Championships but after Scottish Athletics decided not to  present trophies the trophy was returned to the Callan family. The last was winner was World Champion Jake Wightman ! Again, the two heats were of the highest quality with 11 of the girls recording PB performances.
