Over the last week various school events have taken part with the highlight being the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships at Hopeton House near Edinburgh. These events depend on the school entering athletes and it is disappointing very few Glasgow Schools do this.

Various local authority championships have also taken place but official results are not available and over the next few weeks many of young primary Glasgow Athletes will compete at the Emirates in the Super 7 event organised by Active Schools
Where do we start with the weekend when you find Shettleston athletes in 5 different venues and that’s not counting Parkruns!
Jamie Burns was in Lisbon this weekend and had his first outing over the ½ marathon distance finishing 2nd in the open event in a time of 66.30 in a race with over 1800 runners
Scottish Senior & U/17 Indoor Championships
In the last indoor event of the year a few Shettleston athletes tested themself before the outdoor season starts in less than a month with the CSSAL and National Open Leagues in early April .
Abraham Lanahan added to his impressive medal haul this winter finishing 2nd LJ (6.20) and 2nd TJ (13.96 PB) moving him into the top 5 in the UK this year in the U/17 events
Our sprinters were out in force over the 60m with U/20 athlete Godwin Imante finishing 4th in the senior 60m in a time of 6.94, just missing his PB of 6.89

Scottish ½ Marathon Championships
The Scottish ½ Marathon Championships returned to Inverness, a venue which Shettleston has provide many winners over the years. Brogan Wallace continued her great form when taking 3rd place behind international athletes Nancy Scott (Edinburgh ) and Naomi Lang (Carnethy) in a PB of 74.57. Subject to confirmation we believe she lead the Shettleston team to Silver with Rosa Donaldson (5th PB 77.21 ) and Holly Morrison (36th 90.00). The ladies place 2nd over all in the medal table of all time for this event.
The men’s event it was 4th place for Taha Ghafari in a PB performance of 65.39 .It was a record team win for the men with Ross Good 8th (67.58) and Jonathan Moore14th (69.05 PB) gaining his first National medal. Philip Neilson finished 17th 69.42 – A great for the club in Highland Capital .

New Cuningar Loop Parkrun and unexpected warm weather for parkrunners
Local resident Daniel Lowe ran the new Cuningar Parkrun in a time of 18.02 for 9th place with Steven brown finishing in 30.33. John Duffy improves each week after a long injury spell with 4th place at Palacerigg Parkrun in 20.56.
Raymond Loughran ran a time of 31.57 at Pollok Parkrun, one of the original parkruns in the Glasgow area back in 2008.
At the hilly and testing course at Tollcross Parkrun, David Murphy was almost in the top 10 again with a time of 23.01 for 11th place. Bob Porteous was 37th in a time of 28.37.
At the University of Stirling Parkrun, Rebecca Ryan was 1st in her age group with a time of 29.58 (JW 10) with Ellie Ryan 4th in her age group in a time of 34.48 (JW 11-14)
