Volunteer Appeal: Alexandra Junior Parkrun Needs You!
Everyone at Shettleston Harriers is incredibly proud to see so many of our young athletes embracing Parkrun, and excelling at these fantastic community events. With the proposed launch of a new Alexandra Junior Parkrun right on our doorstep, there’s an exciting opportunity for our club members – both adults and our young people – to get involved and support a great cause!
Junior Parkruns provide a brilliant, free, and fun way for children aged 4-14 to get active every Sunday. For this new event to take off, a dedicated team of volunteers is essential. We’re putting out an appeal to our members at Shettleston Harriers to lend a hand and help make Alexandra Junior Parkrun a success!

What kind of roles are available?
There are a variety of roles to suit everyone, all of which are vital for a safe and successful event:
- Tailwalker: The friendly face at the back, ensuring no one is left behind.
- Barcode Scanning: A crucial role in logging participants’ times.
- Marshalling: Guiding and encouraging runners along the course.
- Run Directors: These key individuals take charge on the day, running briefings and overseeing the event. We currently have three Run Directors, but we urgently need another three before a start date can be applied for. If you have the confidence to lead and organise, we would love to hear from you!
- Warm-up Leaders: This could be a fantastic opportunity for some of our young athletes looking to gain valuable work experience, develop their leadership skills, and work with younger children.
Interested in Volunteering? Come to Our Meeting!
We are holding a meeting for all proposed volunteers on Sunday, June 29th, at 11:00 AM in Alexandra Park. Please meet at the Saracen Fountain.
During this meeting, we will measure the course and demonstrate how junior Parkruns operate, giving you a clear insight into what’s involved.
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to email liz.corbett@parkrun.com
Your support can make a huge difference in bringing this fantastic community event to life for local children. We look forward to seeing you there!
