Scottish Schools Honours
Congratulations to three of our young athletes who have been selected to represent the Scottish Schools team at the Schools International, taking place next Saturday at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast.
Joseph and Abraham Lanahan have both been selected in the jumps, while Zoe Roberts will compete over 800m. Pulling on the Scotland vest is a tremendous achievement and everyone at Shettleston Harriers wishes them the very best.
CSSAL Season Concludes
Another busy weekend of competition saw the club complete its 2026 CSSAL league campaign at Grangemouth.
Our athletes continued the excellent progress shown throughout the season by finishing second on the day. Final league positions have still to be confirmed, but a third or fourth-place finish looks likely—an excellent improvement on last year’s sixth place.
This progress has only been possible thanks to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved, including our athletes, coaches, team managers, parents and officials. There were also plenty of personal best performances across the day, with full results to follow soon.
Alan Neil Continues Comeback
At the Scottish Trail Championships, Alan Neil continued his return from injury with a strong 68th-place finish in a field of over 300 athletes. It marks another encouraging step forward as he continues his comeback.
Community Engagement Ahead of the Commonwealth Games
With the Commonwealth Games due to begin at the end of the month, the club has been busy supporting community events alongside our partners at Glasgow Life.
Easterhouse hosted Friday’s event before activities moved to Alexandra Park on Saturday. These events are an important way of promoting the club within the local community and encouraging new people to get involved in athletics.
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time to support these events.
Glasgow Life has also produced an excellent short film featuring our Development Officer, Matt Byers. Be sure to check it out on the club’s Facebook page, and please share it if you can.
Commonwealth Games Opportunity for Young Athletes
Eighteen of our young athletes are set to enjoy a unique Commonwealth Games experience after being selected as kit carriers for the athletics competition.
Matt Byers, Elaine Mackay, Skye Rae and Shannon Monaghan will supervise the group, and the club is extremely grateful to them for giving up their time to make this fantastic opportunity possible. We hope to catch up with some of the athletes after the Games and share their experiences in the coming weeks.
Looking Ahead
A reminder to all eligible athletes that entries are now open for the National Age Group Championships, which take place in August.
If you are planning to compete, please speak to your coach as soon as possible to ensure your entry is submitted in time.

If you have any photos you’d like to share, please email them to development@shettlestonharriers.org.uk by Monday lunchtime each week to give us time to include them in the latest round-up.
Thank you to everyone who continues to capture and share the club’s activities, it really helps us showcase everything that’s happening across Shettleston Harriers.
