Scottish National Cross Country Championships, Falkirk

The highlight of the cross country season, Lindsay’s National Cross Country Championships, took place for the 20th year at Callendar Park on Saturday, with Shettleston Harriers experiencing a day of mixed fortunes across the age groups. There were strong individual performances, team successes and notable award winners as the club competed with the very best in Scotland.

U13 Boys

The U13 boys team narrowly missed out on the medals, finishing in 4th place with 154 points, just outside the podium positions. Rio Biddlecombe led the team home with an excellent run to finish 11th, supported by strong backing from his teammates.

U15 Girls

The U15 girls finished 8th in the team standings with 220 points. Zoe Roberts produced a determined run to lead the team home in 17th place, with solid support from Charlotte Reilly, Ava Prentice and Summer McCallum.

The U15 boys were represented by three athletes who all competed well in a competitive field.

Senior Ladies

After winning the title last year, the Senior Ladies faced a tough challenge to return to the podium, particularly with several key athletes unavailable. Despite this, the team delivered an excellent performance to secure bronze medals, finishing 3rd with 243 points.

Clare Stewart led the team superbly, finishing 8th overall and winning the Bill Scally Memorial Medal and award as first Shettleston Harrier across the line.

Senior Men

In the build up to the race, the Senior Men’s team looked very strong, but illness and injuries in the days before the event affected the final line up. Despite this, the team produced a commendable performance to finish 5th overall with 294 points.

Jamie Burns led the team brilliantly, finishing 6th overall. His performance earned him the Willie Laing Memorial Medal and the Flockhart Award as first Shettleston Harrier home. Jamie also secured the Shettleston Marathon Trophy as the highest placed Shettleston finisher across the senior races.

Awards and Acknowledgements

As the cross-country season draws to a close, thanks go to all coaches, parents and club officials for their hard work and commitment throughout the winter. Club President Gary Woods made the presentations to Clare Stewart and Jamie Burns for their Memorial Awards and medals.

International Action

Despite suffering a heavy fall at the start of the Castellon 10km, Daniel Bradford showed great determination to recover and record an impressive time of 30:30. His performance follows in the footsteps of Megan Keith, who recently set a European record of 30:07 at the same event.

Allan Scally Memorial Relays- 1 Week to Go!

Attention now turns to the Allan Scally Memorial Relays, which take place next Saturday at Glasgow Green. The event will welcome teams from across Scotland and beyond, and any assistance on the day would be greatly appreciated.
