In another action packed weekend, we had athletes competing in Ireland/England/Greece and Scotland.

On international duty this weekend were Charlene McCallum (W35) and Avril Mason (W45) both travelling to Dublin to represent the Scottish Veteran Harriers club in the British & Irish Veteran Cross Country International. Both came away with team medals – Charlene (10th) and 2nd W25 team and Avril also taking 10th place helping Scotland to 3rd W45 team.

Closer to home three members competed in the inaugural Newton 10km (in memory of Cat Gaskill) along the banks of the Clyde near Cambuslang on Saturday.

Gerry Mason made the return journey to Athens (Greece) to compete in the famous marathon and finished in a time of 4hrs 14min 05 sec.

Moving to England, Fred Davis returned home to compete in the Heaton 10km in the North of England and finished 5th in a fine PB performance of 32.17.

Closer to home The Jimmy Irvine Bella 10km is always popular and Shettleston vests were to the fore. Chris McGarrity (31.50) was second behind Ryan Thomson (Cambuslang), Fergus Donnelly  (33.43) 4th and Paul Sorrie (34.38) 9th and 3rd M40. The three top ten finisher meant that they claimed first team prize.

In addition to the races we had a few parkrunners this weekend…

Michael Paxton took first place at Falkirk parkrun in a very respectable 17.13.

At the Tollcross parkrun, Fergus Donnelley dethroned Iain Macdonald of Cambuslang taking first place in 18.16 on the very hilly course. Duncan Macauley continues his good progress with 15th position in 18.50.

At Springburn parkrun Emma Purdie was First Lady and Jodie Waite finished also.

At Queens parkrun David Clarkson was the only club runner as was Melanie Hayes at the Forfar parkrun.
