Weynay Ghebresilaise made a massive improvement in his Marathon time with a fantastic run of 2.09.50 to move to 4th in the all time Scottish Rankings and of course another club record. And with impressive splits over 20km (1.00.44) and 30km (1.31.31) he also moved high up in the all times lists for these intermediate distances. He went through the ½ marathon in 64.05 2nd fastest by a Scot this year and powered to 22rd in the fastest marathon in depth in the world. Weynay’s journey to the top has been very difficult, still without proper support to compete at the highest level and limited financial support it has been a very difficult journey. He is part of the Scottish Marathon project which provides him support and we know he is grateful to the London Marathon organisers in particular to Spencer Barden. The club have done our best to support him as a full time athlete but he needs further support. Can any club member put us in touch with anyone to provide this as we move into the Olympic year.
Weyany is also grateful to the Mackay family, Kevin Johnson (Babcock 10km Series chairperson) and Start Fitness who have supported him financially and with kit. His preparation for the marathon was not easy with his mother passing away a few weeks before the race and also missing a few weeks training after being involved in a car accident. Surely one of the shoe companies can supply him with kit now that he is a sub 2.10 man.
