Jamie Wins Great Scottish Run Half Marathon

As Storm Amy subsided over the West of Scotland a healthy continent of Shettleston Harriers athletes took to the start line of the 2025 AJ Bell Great Scottish Run on Sunday.

Last year’s 10k winner Jamie Burns doubled up on his achievement by winning the Half Marathon this time out in an impressive time of 1:04:42, almost two minutes inside his previous PB. Hot on Jamie’s heels was Weynay Ghebresilasie who finished second in a time of 1:06:03 giving Shettleston a 1-2 on the podium. Findlay Dyer wasn’t far behind in sixth place 1:07:51 and in 20th place Tom Porter also ran a PB 1:11:54. Indeed there were eight PB performance across the 25 Shettleston athletes that took part in the Half Marathon.

Over the shorter 10K distance two Shettleston athletes finish within the top ten. Ross Good was 6th – 31:12 and Luke Howard eighth – 31:43

Suidhe Hill Race

Over the weekend the junior hill runners took part in Suidhe Hill Race near Fort Augustus which was the final race in the 2025 ScottishAthletics Junior hill league. Two races were on offer – the Under 13s doing a challenging 3km and everyone else a 5km race to the top of Suidhe. The race was part of the Kincraig family fun day which created a carnival atmosphere and meant the water slide at the end of the race didn’t seem completely out of place.

The 3km race started one kilometre up the track at exactly the same time as the 5km race. Everyone managed to get to the correct start locations and despite a couple of downhill runners colliding with uphill ones all got back and across the water slide safely.

The 3km race was first back and Rio came through in 5th place being hampered by a painful arm during the race. Rowan managed 1st U13 girl, colliding with the 1st boy as he descended. Joseph and Lauren managed incident free runs in what is their longest hill races yet. They helped contribute to a impressive field of 20 youngsters doing the shorter race. Chris won the battle of the Dad’s coming in ahead of Jethro in the 5km race as well as first M40. He also took the scalp of another former Scottish International, Al Anthony, as was picked up by local media. Euan’s 4th place helped him secure 5th overall in the league.

The group enjoyed a hill walk with juniors from other clubs and parents the next day in the Cairngorm mountains. A very enjoyable and action-packed September holiday weekend for all.
