Shettleston Harriers Weekend Round-Up:
What a weekend for Shettleston Harriers, with club athletes shining across various disciplines, bringing home national titles, personal bests, and strong team performances.
National 10km Road Titles: A Tribute to Lachie Stewart
The “Roon the Toon” 10km in Kilmarnock served as the Scottish National 10km Road Championships on Sunday and a poignant tribute to club legend Lachie Stewart. A minute of applause before the race marked his incredible career, clearly inspiring our athletes to exceptional feats.
Jamie Burns (29:41) and Brogan Wallace (33:35) both delivered incredible performances to clinch the National 10km Road Titles.
Jamie’s win marked his second National Senior Title, following his previous 10,000m track victory. This was a fantastic return to form for Jamie after a challenging month facing injury. His time was a new personal best and a course record. He now enters the club’s top 10 all-time for the 10km distance, becoming only the fourth Shettleston man to win this title.

Not to be outdone, Brogan Wallace returned to her hometown to claim her first senior title. Her incredible time of 33:35 is the second fastest ever by a Shettleston lady, making her the third woman from the club to win this prestigious title. Adding to the club’s success, Lynn McKenna, the National Cross Country individual champion, impressed in her 10km debut, finishing a brilliant second in 34:22.

In the Men’s race, Jonathan Moore narrowly missed his personal best with a fantastic fifth place finish in 31:29. A special mention goes to our M70 age group athlete, Bob Porteous, who was the third counter for the men’s team – an incredible achievement in his 60-plus years with the club! While we didn’t secure the team titles on this occasion, the individual performances were truly outstanding.
Scottish Schools Championships: Relay Glory & Pentathlon PBs
Our young athletes showcased their talent at the Scottish Schools Championships.
On Friday night, at the Secondary Schools relays, Zoe Roberts and Arianna Obiara were part of the winning Glasgow School of Sport team in the 4x100m relay. Annie Maclean also put in a strong performance, contributing to the team that successfully defended their 4x400m title, winning for the third consecutive year.
On Saturday, Molly Brown represented her school in the Primary School Relay Championships at Grangemouth, helping her 4x100m team reach the finals and finish an excellent seventh overall out of 21 schools.
Also at Grangemouth on Saturday, Abraham Lanahan, Joseph Lanahan, and Estelle Giraud competed in the Pentathlon. While full results are still being compiled, we understand there were some fantastic personal bests achieved! Estelle Giraud set PBs in the 80m hurdles with a time of 14.83s and a High Jump of 1.42m. A highlight for them was meeting and speaking to Olympic champion and current UK Athletic President Denise Lewis.

Superteams: Strong Showing & National Finalists!
Our young athletes continued to impress at the Superteams competition. Louis Millican finished in 3rd individually on the day. More importantly, the team has qualified for the National Finals, which will take place at the Regional Performance Centre in Dundee on June 21st.
