Three of our young athletes competed in the 4J ScottishAthletics Combined events in Dundee. Five different athletic disciplines over one day for the athletes. While Lidya Woldselassie and Eliane Mackay were also in action at the same venue.
Joseph Lanahan (photo above) produced a Gold medal performance to take the National Combined title at the U/13 age group. His winning points total of 2089 puts him in the all time 10 best by a UK athlete and is a Scottish best. Congratulations to Joseph, his coach Tom Harrison and his family.

The Josephs brother, Abraham, and Molly Brown (photo above) also competed. Abraham was lying in medal position going in to the last event over 800m but an ankle injury forced him to scratch from the race. This was a real pity as a silver medal was up for grabs. First year U/13 girls Molly Brown produced 4 PB performances in her first attempt at this event and moving forward will only get better. It may have been 5 but a fall in the hurdles put this out of her reach .

Club President Elaine Mackay has had to wait close to 50 years to claim her first Track National Medal this weekend. Running in the Scottish Athletics Masters Championships in Dundee she finished 2nd in the W55 1500m. Elaine has had a long career in athletics competing at International level for Scotland over the Country, Roads and Hills. The one surface she did not have National medals was the track after winning National titles at ½ marathon, placing in the 10km and 10mile championships, being part of numerous district and national winning teams and represent the club at European Club Cross Country Championships. She started off her career in athletics as a High Jumper but was still able to do multi events as she could hurdle ,throw and of course jump. It was fitting this weekend as she travelled to Dundee to support three of our young athletes in the combined event she found time to compete herself. I am sure everyone will send their congratulations to Elaine.
A great weekend for all the athletes at Dundee. Full results here
