There was no rest for club members this week with athletes competing on the road, hills and track with great success.

Following on from a National bronze team medal in our highly successful Babcock Shettleston 10km, Cameron Muir travelled home to Dumfries on Wednesday night to claim a win in the Hollywood Stroll 5mile Road Race. The club would also like to congratulate Cameron on his recent marriage.

The weekend past saw the West District Track and Field Championships take place in Kilmarnock.

A new format was being tested by Scottish Athletics for the U14 age group. Each athlete competed over three events, choosing either two track and one field or two field and one track event. There were no individual medals awarded and athletes competed to achieve Gold, Silver or Bronze Badges based on their overall performance. Two club members claimed Gold Badges over a busy day of competition.

On the road there was club representation at the Gryffe Valley Rotary 10km with Jessica Martin finishing second Female and Paul Sorrie coming home fifth in the M40 category.

Jamie Burns has been in great form in recent weeks. In the Shettleston 10k last weekend he improved his personal best, running 29.29 which puts him seventh in the club’s all time rankings. He rounded off a fantastic week at Trafford (Manchester) on Saturday breaking the magical 14 minute barrier for 5000m with a time of 13.59.57. This also places him seventh in the club’s all time rankings over that distance.

The club has been delighted in recent weeks to support Jamie along with Chris Bennet and Weynay Gebreselassie allowing them to compete at the highest level. Weynay is due to travel to Kenya in preparation for the European Athletics Championships whilst Chris is chasing the Commonwealth Games Qualifier distance in the Hammer. Alongside the successes that our young athletes continue to have it shows the club commitment to support athletes at all levels.
