The benign weather made for good running conditions this weekend, with a great turnout across various events. Here’s a roundup of the latest results.

Scottish Senior / U17 Championships

The run of major championships came to an end this weekend as the Scottish Senior / U17 Championships returned to Grangemouth. A small but select group of Shettleston Harriers competed over the two days.

Gordon Bury’s sprint group has had a fantastic season, with three of his athletes reaching the semi-finals of a very competitive 100m. Godwin Imante progressed to the final, finishing 4th in 10.92 (W/S -0.7).

U/15 medallist Zoe Roberts broke new ground by competing in the U/17 800m event.

  • Zoe Roberts: Heat 2:18.32 | Final 6th (2:19.46)

On day one, Estelle Giraud (U17) recorded a new PB in the High Jump with a jump of 1.44m. The following day she competed in the Shot Put, recording 9.33m. Sam Lesley was the only senior to compete on day two, finishing in a time of 15:12.59.

International and Road Race Roundup

Brogan Wallace made her senior international appearance in the Antrim Half Marathon, finishing an excellent 10th in a high-class international field with a time of 75:17, just short of a PB. She was joined on the start line by London-based member Fin Dyer, who finished 23rd with a time of 67:43 in a field of over 2000.

Closer to home, several 10k races took place over the weekend.

  • Michael Paxton took 1st place in the Killin 10k with a time of 35:41.
  • It was great to see John Owens (M70) back on the road, finishing 8th in his age group with a time of 63:22.
  • Kristan Alexander took to the roads at the Forth Road 10k, finishing 17th in the N40 age group with a time of 45 minutes.

What’s Next?

The club has a busy week ahead with a record entry for our Open Graded meeting on Tuesday. Many thanks to Slip Stream Media for supporting the event. The heats of the Derek McLean and Adrian Callan Memorial 800m Races take place on night one (26/8) and have attracted the top U/15 athletes from all over Scotland. The top 8 athletes from the heats will progress to the finals on 2/9/2025.

We also have the Alex Naylor Memorial 3000m races. An exciting night of athletics is expected at Crownpoint! The action starts at 5:40pm with 100m races.

We hope to see as many club members, parents, club officials, and friends from around Scotland as possible to support our athletes and help us put on these meetings!
