It was another busy weekend for the club, with athletes competing across hill, road and track.
In London, Chris Bennett achieved another Commonwealth Games qualifying standard in the hammer with a throw of 70.31m, continuing his excellent early season form.
At the Scottish Uphill Championships at Ben Ledi, Gerry Pelegri was the club’s sole representative, finishing 56th in a challenging event.
The West District 10 Mile Championships also took place, with strong performances across the age groups. John Duffy took 1st place in the M60 category, while Iain Burns secured 3rd place in the M40 category. There were also solid runs from Alex Manley (13th), Iain Burns (14th overall), and Robbie Porteous, with the team well represented throughout the field.
Track & Field – CSSAL Match 1 (Ayr)
The outdoor track season got underway in Ayr on Sunday in very challenging conditions, with strong winds, hailstones, rain and brief bursts of sunshine. These conditions tested athletes and officials alike, and days like this simply would not happen without the efforts of team managers, officials, coaches, parents and all those working behind the scenes; thank you to everyone involved.
Despite this, the club made an excellent start to the season, finishing 4th in Division 1, a strong position to build on in the matches ahead.
There were a number of standout performances across all age groups:
In the sprints, David Omorogieva was one of the performances of the day, taking victory in the U16 Boys 100m (11.36), while there were solid runs from Michael Nyarko and Emmanuel Nyamel in the senior sprints. In the women’s events, Viktoria Tennent and Molly Brown both produced strong sprint performances in their respective age groups.
Over 400m, Raphael Johnson (2nd A string) and Viktor Akintula (1st B string) combined well in the U18 Men’s events, while Maynard Conteh and Derick Aigbadon put in determined runs in the senior ranks.
Middle distance also saw some encouraging performances, with Lachlan Oates finishing 2nd in the Senior Men’s 800m. There were also competitive runs from Joseph Paterson, Rio Biddlescombe, and Dominic Boyle in the younger age groups, alongside strong efforts from Ronnie Strachan and Stephen Clark in the masters events.
In the field events, Gerard Gontor cleared 1.55m to take 2nd place in the U18 Men’s High Jump, while Carson Graham contributed valuable points in both the Shot Putt and High Jump. In the younger age groups, athletes such as Harry Bell, Ethan Ferrie, and Louis Millican competed well across multiple disciplines, highlighting the depth and versatility within the squad.
The relays once again proved to be a real strength for the club, with excellent team performances across the board. The U16 Mixed and U18 Mixed teams both secured 2nd place finishes, while the Senior Mixed team finished 3rd, showing strong teamwork and commitment.
There were also many encouraging performances from our younger athletes making their early season appearances, gaining valuable experience in difficult conditions and contributing important points to the overall team result.

It was a busy Saturday and well done to all attendees. There were first place finishes for Cameron Muir at Pollok and Kevin Craig Alston at Ury Riverside. There was also a close battle between Mark McKelvie and Scott McKelvie at Strathclyde, who finished second and third, respectively.
