A tremendous weekend of racing saw Shettleston Harriers secure notable victories, impressive team performances, and committed runs across the country.
Loch Ness Baxter Marathon & 10km
Loch Ness Baxter Marathon
Lachlan Oates went through the halfway point in just over 67 minutes, setting an ambitious pace for a very fast time. Unfortunately, the notorious downhill sections of the Loch Ness course caused him serious thigh pain, forcing him to alternate between walking and jogging for the remainder of the race.
Despite the setback, Lachlan showed immense grit to finish the marathon in an outstanding time of 2 hours 32 minutes, securing 5th position overall. While not the time he was aiming for, this performance reflects how hard he works.
Baxter’s 10km Inverness
In the shorter event held in Inverness, John Oates had a solid run, finishing 151st overall in a time of 41 minutes 55 seconds, and securing a brilliant 8th place in the M60 age category.
Linlithgow 10km
A great turnout saw 677 runners take part in the Linlithgow 10km:
- Mark McColl: 59th position, 39:59
- Andrew Waite: 202nd position, 46:25
Two Breweries Hill Race (30km)
Shettleston dominated the challenging 30km route from Traquair House to Broughton Ales, particularly in the women’s categories.
Elena Heger had a truly fantastic run to take the overall win in the women’s race, with Zoe Barber securing a superb 2nd place overall. They were brilliantly supported by Shona Roberts, who finished as 1st F50. This combined effort secured the Ladies’ Team Prize for the club—a fantastic achievement!
In the men’s race, Stephen Winters celebrated his reappointment as Secretary to the Hill Running Commission by finishing 8th M40. Alex Clarkson also delivered a strong performance, finishing 8th in the open men’s race.
