Seyd Taha Ghafari had a fantastic run to finished 49th in the European Cross Country in Piemonte, Italy. The race was won by Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway. Taha was running for the European Refugee Team over the tough course and he continues to improve after recent injuries. He moved to Glasgow in June and with the club’s support he has settled into Scottish life along with his wife. The club is proud to maintain its core values of inclusion and making our sport open to all.
This week the 118th AGM was held. We wonder what our founder members would think of the modern world and a Zoom AGM! A healthy attendance was present and members had the opportunity to question and vote on a number of issues. A full report will be available soon.
Three awards were given at the AGM
Paul Richfeld Trophy – Winner Avril Mason
The AGM was unanimous in awarding Avril this prestigious Trophy first awarded back in the 1948.
The “Paul Richfeld Trophy” is awarded annually to the member of Shettleston Harrriers,
who by their example, their performance or by their influence as an amateur and as a
person, has done most during one year to advance the cause of sportmanship.

Avril has had a glittering career in her own athletic career and an excellent profile can be viewed on the club website. This year she has led by example as our ladies have had unparalleled success.
Jack Kean Bursary -Winner Ross Gollan
Ross recently gained his first GB selection running in the World Up& Down Hill running Championships in Thailand. Ross is a young athlete with much potential already winning international hill races and competing for Scotland many times. He finished 2nd in last years Scottish Cross Country Championships leading the team to silver.
Jack Kean Memorial Trophy -Winner Amy Maclellan
A name not too familiar to many members. Ann Kean (Jacks wife) wanted a trophy to be presented to the unsung heroes of the club. Not everyone can be part of a winning team and / or win individual medals. You will not see Amy’s name in these teams but you find her in many results over many years. We are delighted to recognise Amy’s contribution and pioneering work as our Ladies Team developed.
We hope to present the Paul Richfeld and Jack Keans Memorial Trophies at the Christmas Handicap on the 17th December. Please remember senior members if you want to run please let John Mackay know ASAP.
The one club free place for the London Marathon 2023 was drawn at the AGM – Congratulations to Martyn Mullan who was the lucky winner.

Fergus Donnelly ran 16.57 for second place at Victoria Park.
Way down south to Clapham Common Parkrun, Bryony Macleod ran a time of 22.32.
