On a glorious night at the Everyone Active Shettleston Open Graded Meeting, supported by Scottish Galvanizers Ltd ,a number of top performances were recorded. Lois MacRae of inverness Harriers has been in great form all season winning Scottish ,English and numerous open events, was the star performer. She recorded a Scottish Record for a U/15 girl when running 2.08.30 in winning the Adrian Callan Memorial 800m. Front running she blow the field apart winning from Eilidh Dallas (Strathearn H) and Eilidh Caldow (Giffnock North). With 7 out of 8 girls in the field running PB performances it was a fitting tribute to Adrian. Jo Callan ( Adrian’s Mum ) and his brother Andy were on hand to present the trophy and prizes to the winners.
The Derek McLean Memorial 800m race for the U/15 boys also saw a record go when Alistair Street (Kilbarchan AAC) produced a powerful front running performance when running 1.56.68 (it also has been confirm a Scottish Record for an under 15 boy) .The previous record for the race goes all the way back to 1989 when Allan O’Hare (Clydebank AC) ran 1.59.6 .With the field depleted due to injury all 4 boys who ran, recorded PB performances.
These two Memorial races continually to produce some of the fastest U/15 800m of the year. The club is grateful to our sponsors Everyone Active and Scottish Galvanizers Ltd who allowed us to put on such high quality races. Erin Gillen (Scottish National Club Manager) , linked to the club ,was also on hand to make some of the presentations along with club President, Elaine Mackay.
The Open Graded also saw a number of other great performances both from Shettleston athletes and the wide range of clubs which supported our event. The 1500m series was off particular interest with Jill Cherry (VP Glasgow ) Commonwealth Games medallist, running her first ever 1500m, Hannah Ryding (Giffnock North), Jessica Inglis (Law), Holly Ovens (Fife) and Millie McCelland -Brooks all posting excellent times .
Owen Millar (Fife ) 14.43.49 and Annabel Simpson (Fife ) 16.22.16 were the pick in the 5000m with Stephen Ross (Airdrie) taking the 400m with a time of 49.81 .
Congratulations to Joseph Lanahan (Shettleston Harriers U/13) who posted one of the longest jumps in the UK this year for his age group by jumping 5.24 (-1.0) and his club mate Louise Clifford who broke the U/13 girls Shettleston Harriers’ club record in the Javelin.
The club is particular grateful to all the officials who come along to support our events. These officials have worked at the highest level including Olympics games ,Commonwealth Games and numerous other international events. Thank you also to Glasgow Life staff and all the club members and Parents who work so hard to put on our events.
