Sunshine returned for the final Babcock 10km race of the series and the sun certainly shone on the club pick up a whole string of prizes. Emily Carroll was pulling on her Shettleston vest for the first time and returned home to Helensburgh to place 2nd to Nynke Mullholland -Stummer of Inverclyde. Emily is currently completing a research degree in London and we will see her more regular in the few months. With 3 ladies in the top 10 – Suzi Blake (6th ) and Victoria Riddell (8th), they again claimed the team prize. Emily also pick up 2nd place in the West District 10km Championship, her first every district medal. Three other ladies started the race with Club President, Elaine Mackay, breaking 50mins, Emma McKinnon PB and Joanne Harkins just missing the 1 hour mark. Well done ladies.
The men’s race was also very successful with Jamie Burns 2nd to Calum Johnston of Gateshead H/East Kilbride. Calum recently ran in the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade but was not quick enough to break Wayney’s course record of 29.32. Weyney is currently preparing for the Big Half and the Berlin Marathon. Jamie also picked up the Gold in the West District 10km Championships. Again it was a win for the men in the team race with Taha Ghafari (4th over all and Bronze in the Championships) supported by Cameron Muir (11th).With 16 Blue and Gold Vests on the start, it was a great night for the club.
The club is grateful to our partner clubs Dumbarton Race Directors (Peter Walsh) and Helensburgh (Debbie Savage) and Series Director – Kevin Johnson for all the hard work they put into the series. Babcock ,Start Fitness and the Community Advertiser for sponsorship of the series. St Andrews First Aid ,Raynet and Protay timing for making sure the series runs smoothly. A lot of work is put into the series by the club and especially by John Mackay (Race Director -Glasgow Green). Our next big events are our two open graded events in late August (27/8 ) and early September (3/9)-We hope to see as many club members supporting these events.

It was a great day for the club at the Scottish Schools Multiple Event Championships with two Golds and one Bronze -Zoe Roberts and Joseph Lanahan both took Gold in the younger age groups. Both these athletes have been very busy this season setting numerous PB performances and club records .Abraham Lanahan also took a medal in the older age group but this time it was Bronze .Well done to all these athletes.
Katie Woods moved into a new level smashing her PB and Scottish Schools record when winning the Scottish Schools U/17 1500m Steeplechase race. Her time of 5min 12 moved her to number 2 in the UK this year and 7th in the all time lists of Scotland .She also ran the qualifying time for the UK School Games and puts her in a strong position to be picked for the Scottish School team to compete in Schools International later this year. Congratulations to Katie
Two of our athletes were in London over the weekend competing for Glasgow in the National League
Results: Teddy Tchoudja Shot Putt 12.60m, Amit Kumar -High Jump 1.90m and TJ 12.59m – Amit’s jumped 1.90m again after winning at Crownpoint the previous week.
