The long standing Derek McLean U/15 800m Memorial Race record of 1.59.6 set by Allan O’Hara (Clydebank AC) in 1989 fell to Alistair Street of Kilbarchan when he clocked 1.59.04 in winning his heat. The final on the 5th September looks to be an exciting race with Calum Dick (Giffnock ) looking to be his main threat in the final. In the second year of its running, defending champion of the Adrian Callan Memorial U/15 Girls 800m, Lois McCrae of Inverness, made the long journey from Inverness to clock the fastest 800m at this age group this season – 2.12 81. Again we look forward to the final on the 5th September with many of top ranked girls will give Lois some stiff competition.
Long time coach and highly regarded UK/Scottish athletics member, Alex Naylor’s Memorial 3000m race took place and Peter Bradshaw of Inverclyde AC won with a time of 8.21.82 from Craig Shennan (Giffnock ) U/17 8.23.71 and Owen Millar T/20 8.27.30. In 4th place we believe U/15 athlete, Angus Wilkinson (East Kilbride), ran a UK best for his age group of 8.35.47.

In the ladies event it was a win for Lesley Bell (Garscube W45 ) 10.15.18 from Jessica Inglis (Law U/17 ) 10.16.68 and Emma Mclennan (Giffnock U/20) 10.32.01
With lots of PB performances ,some performances to highlight include a sprint double from Ally Mitchell (Kilmarnock U/20) ) 100m /200m -10.95 (+0.8) /22.06(+1.9). Excellent putting from the Robb brothers of Pitreave AC( Murray U/13 11.70 and Bruce U/17 12.95) and Teddy Tchoudja (Shettleston U/23) with a distance of 14.15. Provisonal results are now available
These events cannot go ahead without the help of Scottish Athletics officials and of course club volunteers and we are sure all the athletes would like to thank them. We look forward to the 5th September and the Finals of the Derek Mclean Memorial Race (now in its 34 year of running) and the Adrian Callan Memorial Race.
