History was made on Saturday for the club when the ladies team won bronze in the ladies’ event at the National Cross Country Relays at Cumbernauld. In 2004 the club admitted girls/ladies for the first time although Shettleston Harriers Ladies had close affiliations with the then, men’s only club. You will find a familiar name in the only other time a Shettleston lady has won a medal at this event – Elaine Mackay in the session 1994-95!

It was a great effort from the ladies and we believe Fionnuala Ross recorded the 2nd fastest time of the day behind GB Internationalist and European Cross -Country Champion ,Megan Keith. It was a great all- round effort from the girls who had already won the West District Cross Country Relay Championships a few weeks ago. Avril Mason is doing a great job getting the girls out with 3 teams on the start line

A team 3rd

Aoife Carr 15.02, Ruth Joss 15.22, Hannah Terrance 15.17, Fionnuala Ross 13.51

B Team 17th

C Team

A vast improvement saw the Men’s team placing 6th in a highly competitive race. Taha Ghafari got us to a good start finishing 3rd on leg 1 just in front of Jamie Burns who was running for his university. Solid runs from Chris McGarrity, Lachlan Oates and Matthew Turner saw us finishing 6th  out of a field of 122 teams.

With school holidays playing havoc with the Young athlete’s teams, we were unable to put on a full range of age groups for the girls but four of them, Ava Millican 12.26, Katie Burns 12.41, Katie Monaghan 12.46 and Jessica Grant 13.38 managed to get a run

The boys team finished 50th

On Sunday 4 athletes were not satisfied with the mud of Cumbernauld but ran in the Mugdock Country Park Trail Race – Placing 1st to 4th!

Meanwhile Peter Avent made the trip to Leeds to finish 20th in Leeds Abbey Dash in a time of 30.27

At Grangemouth on Saturday saw the 1st SA Throws Event of the season, in terrible conditions Louise Clifford throw 15.16 in the Javelin
