Track, Field, Hills and Road events found Shettleston Harriers on the podium and showcased the excellent athletes we have at the club .

The pinnacle of the School athletics season took place at  Grangemouth over the weekend with the Scottish Schools Track and Field Championships and it was a very successful championships for the club. It was double Gold for Godwin Imante over 100m & 200m in the A Age Group with his clubmate, Maynard Conteth also making the finals over 100m & 200m. Annie McLean claimed Gold in the Group B 300m with her clubmate Ava Millican missing out on the bronze by a whisker! Jonathan Hooper also had a busy weekend claiming Gold in the 200m Group B and Silver in the Group B Long Jump.

With the club represented in a number of other events – Chloe Fox  & Louise Clifford (Javelin), Adam Clifford (800m/1500m) ,Matthew Fox (1500m), Lidya Woldeselassie (Discus), Estelle Giraud (High Jump) and Katie Woods (3000m) and it shows the development of our athletes are on course. Thank you to all the parents /coaches who have helped in this.

Keeping on the track and field theme the club travelled to Grangemouth for the 2nd CSSAL League Match and with the early unscrutinised results show that we won the match and on course to gain promotion back to Division 1. Provisional results are available but as soon as they are checked we will make them available for all athletes. Again a big thanks to officials /team managers/coaches and parents and of course all the athletes to make  this possible.

Switch to the roads we had athletes at the two big road races over the weekend. Fridaynight saw the popular Bellahouston Brian Goodwin Memorial 10km return to the South Side of Glasgow

Moving to Sunday and the venue was Kilmarnock Roon the Toon 10km with Taha Ghafari continuing his progress to fitness with a easy win in 30.48

The hill runners have been busy and continue their push to claim medals in the SHR Championships  –Two Mamores Hill Race   – results below 

Dan Dry  and Zoe Barber took 2nd place in this classic race with Masters, Kenny Richmond (1st M50) and Tom Owens (3rd M40) also on the podium. The men took 3rd team and ladies 4th team

Parkruns

At Tollcross Parkrun, it was good to see Ronnie Strachan back in action at his local Parkrun where he ran 19.08 for second place. David Murphy was 13th place in a time of 23.32.

At Springburn Parkrun, Emma Purdie secured 9th lady in a time of 21.28.

At Queen’s Parkrun, Raymond finished in a time of 54.30 doing his trailwalker

Finally at Palacerigg Parkrun, John Duffy who is currently preparing for the West Highland Way Race, finished in second place in a time of 21.31. Kevin Armstrong was 15th in a time of 26.42.
