Top athletics returned to Irvine, the scene of some classic cross- country events in the past, with the club well represented in a number of teams, contributing to the West ,North and Student teams.
Katie Woods finished in 20th position in the U/15 event, being the youngest girl in the race and will have the opportunity to compete in this age group again next year.
Little did we know 18 years on, Lachlan Oates and Chris McGarrity would still be around and competing. Fantastic photo’s just unearthed shows both of them competing in the Young Athlete’s Final in 2004.

Top finisher in the senior race for the club was Ross Gollan who took the bronze, competing for the North District. Lachlan was 6th position helping the West District take the silver medal in the team competition. Jamie Burns went one better helping the Scottish Students team take team gold when finishing 14th in the Senior race. Peter Avent finished 26th and was also part of the West medal winning team. Chris McGarrity continues his return to the top flight finishing 33rd – Chris won an individual medal way back in 2003 in the U/13 event and his fellow club member Lachlan won an individual medal at U/13 in 2005!
The 6th member of the club to be selected for a district team was Daniel Bradford who despite returning after an injury finished in 48th position.
Two Ladies made the West team with super vet, Avril Mason, finishing 29th and Ruth Joss 37th.
We can now look forward to the Lanarkshire Cross Country Championships and the National Cross-country Championships in February.
