Shettleston Harriers will host the Goatfell Hill Race on Arran this Saturday, May 17, one of the classic hill races on the calendar. The race will start in Ormiston Park in Brodick at 12:00 noon.

The course follows an out and back route from Brodick, passing Brodick Castle, and climbing to the summit of Goatfell. It returns by the same route, covering a distance of 15.6km and 880m of elevation. The first 2km of the race is run on the road to Brodick Castle where the route then starts to climb through Merkland Wood and onto the open hillside. The runners will be hoping that the current good weather holds for the weekend.

The race has not been included as a championship event this year but there is currently120 runners signed up to tackle the challenging course, including a healthy contingent from Shettleston Harriers. It is expected that the competition will be really close this year with a number of runners capable of taking the win.

Entries for the event are still open so it is hoped that more will chose to make the trip to Arran for the weekend.
