It was a historical weekend for the club with three athletes on the start list for the European Cross Country Championships in Brussels ,Belgium .Only two started as due to new European immigration rules after Brexit, Taha was not allowed to enter Belgium. This was after flying to Germany to join his team. It was a pity for him after preparing for the championships so well. He will have another day.
The McKenna family (Dad ,Frank and sister Charlotte) travelled to Brussels to watch Lynn run for GB for the first time. You could see the pride on the face of the McKenna’s on this special day for Lynn and she never disappointed with a fantastic 35th place in the such a high quality race. It was even better when the GB U/23 team lifted the team championships . Her fellow Scot, Megan Keith, had one of the runs of the championships winning her race gliding over the mud on a very tough course. Lynn is someone to look out for the future and we are sure the experience of the weekend will certainly help her.
Fionnuala Ross has competed a number of times for Ireland at these championships but Sunday saw her best ever finish when finishing 30th over all. She was also second over the line for the Irish team and like Lynn her family were their to share her special day. Fionnuala will now go into Marathon preparation time as she will line up along side Weynay Ghebreilasie in Seville in mid February. Both of these athletes looking to post Olympic qualifying times.
Spain is the place to be at the moment in terms of Marathons and news has reached us Scott McKelvie smashed his PB running 2.41.43 in the Malaga Marathon .
Congratulations to Elena Heger who won the Christmas Pudding Trail race in Melrose on Sunday
