In a very busy 7 days the club has a number of notable performances.
Last weekend two of our English based Scots ran in Birmingham for their English Clubs TVH and Leeds city. New member Emily Carroll had much to be cheerful as she was part of the winning TVH in the UK Road Relay Championships. Eilidh Bell ran in the Leeds City B team just missing out to run for the A team which also featured in the medals. Our own Ladies team had qualified for the event but with a few of the ladies missing as they prepared for upcoming Marathons and a spell of warm weather training ladies Captain, Avril, decided to wait another year before attacking the event. A fantastic event which many of the men will remember with fond memories being one of only three Scottish teams to ever claim medals at the event.
Closer to home Linwood was the venue for the Kilbarchan Open Graded Meeting on Tuesday Evening. Winds of up to -6m/s in the home straight affected all the races

Jamie Burns had an excellent weekend as he finishes of his time at North Dakota University running in the Sunshine state of California in the long beach area. On Friday he smashed his PB and posted a North Dakota University Record running 14.08.08 in a 5000m race. This time also puts him into the top 10 all times ran by a Shettleston athlete. On Saturday evening he ran over 1500m running 3.55.84 just over a second outside his PB. He ran this time at 2am local time! Jamie let us know he was in the 96th heat of the 1500m series and over 1600 athletes would race over the distance .
Moving to Saturday the club could be found at two events – Scottish National League at Grangemouth and the first race in the Scottish Hill Running Championships –The Cobbler Hill Race
The National League allows an athlete to compete in their chosen event without the pressure of gaining points and just looking to improve PB performances. Again conditions were not perfect with strong winds and heavy downpours throughout the day but this did not stop some excellent performances. U/17 athlete Ava Millican has had a busy few days but produced two PB performances 100m 13.49 +2.4 and 44.05 over 300m. Her time over 300m placed her 4th over all and in better conditions this time is sure to come down.
Scottish Shot Putt Champion Teddy Tchoudja started her out door season with an easy win putting 12.87. Other athletes competing were Matthew Fox U/17 (800m 2.11.61) and Arif Chapiti (100m 12.41 +0.0). The 2000m Steeplechase is not often run in Scotland but Shettleston had two ladies in this event, Katie Woods U/17 7.58.37 and Tara Walker (making her first attempt at the chase) 8.20.32 both featured towards the front of a large field of 11. Thank you to John Coyle ,Shenna MacDonald, Elaine Mackay and John Mackay who gave up their Saturday to officiate to allow our athletes to compete. Each club must provide at least three officials for this event. On Saturday 27th of April at our first CSSAL match also at Grangemouth we are required to supply 5 officials- Names to John Mackay if you are available.

The final event of the weekend was the Popular Round the Houses 10km at Grangemouth which also included the Scottish Students Championships. Again the weather was a major factor with the wind slowing down the times. This did not stop Elena Heger finishing 4th in the Student Championships in a PB of 39.12 and 8th lady overall
