The club is very grateful  to Armagh AC for their invite to compete in the world class Armagh Road Races which took place on Thursday evening. Many club members will have watched the event on line and be very impressed both with the quality and the size of the event .With the very generous support of Armagh and the club we give a number of athletes their first (for many) a   chance of an international event. This was a great experience for them with the  club had   athletes in three events over the evening

International Armagh Men 5km

Club results -Team 9th Fred Davis 14.59 -PB, Philip Neilson 15.00, Matthew Turner 15.28, Lucas Cheskin -15.40

15 different countries competed in this event and was won by the European 3000m S/C champion Tapi Raitanem of Finland

International Armagh Women’s 3km  

Club Results -Team 11th Fionnuala Ross 9.27, Aofie Carr 10.22, Hannah Terrance 10.38, Avril Mason 10.59, Tara Walker 11.00, Holly Morrison 11.04

18 different countries competed in this race and was won by Megan Davies of Scotland

Aofie Carr has been a very busy lady this week following on from her run at Armagh. She competed in the Irish Intermediate Championships  over 8km in Dublin finishing 4th overal. On an international theme Jamie Burns ran 8.27 in Boston (USA) over 3000m, when competing for his University North Dakota, and his good friend Cameron Wallace ran a PB over the ½ marathon (75.01) in Barcelona (Spain).

The English Indoor Age Group Championships took place in Sheffield over the weekend and we had three Shettleston athletes in action. Jonathan Hooper and Annie Mclean competing for  Glasgow School of Sport and  Godwin Imante for the club. Congratulations to Jonathan who picked up a silver in the U/17 Long Jump with a jump of 6.73PB and 9th all time indoor for a Scot. This also puts him into the top 10 in the UK this year. His school friend, Annie Mclean  (U/17 ), was also in good form with a PB over 300m (41.38 ) and she equalled her PB over 200m 26.33.

Godwin Imante (U/20) made his first appearance at a English championships making the semi-  final of a very competive 60m with times of 6.95ht /6.97Semi Final. Great experience for this young athlete.

The Lanahan brothers have been in great form again with Joseph U/13  (HJ 1.61 PB and 1st in UK Rankings) and Abraham  U/15 (1.65PB) at the Jump event  at Tollcross on Thursday evening. Amit Kumar(Sen) jumped 1.93 to win the event. Carson Graham jumped 1.52m to move to 2nd in the O45 UK Rankings with Murray Graham jumping 1.37m

Scottish Athletics Masters Cross Country Championships Forres ( Near Inverness) Sunday

Club president Elaine Mackay has had a very busy few days -Armagh (Thursday ), Erskine (Saturday) and Forres (Sunday ) but more of that later.

Congratulations to Joe Symonds who finished 2nd in M40 age group leading the team to silver behind Metro Aberdeen -Team members Paul Sorrie (6th ) Ally Scott (12th ) and Iain Burns (20th )

Denis Williams finished 2nd in the M60 age group. Club President Elaine Mackay ran her first Cross Country race in over 20 years when she finished 11th in the W55 age group. Elaine was team manager in Armagh and Erskine so a very busy few days for her. Husband John (Club Secretary) was also on hand at all three events helping drive athletes, arranging teams and uploading results.

The final event of a very busy week with club members competing at 7 different events was the Kirkintilloch 12.5 km -Parkrun results still to come in so it will be more than 7!
