Another very busy weekend for club members saw us compete around the UK again over many different surfaces .

On Saturday club members were competing in a Hill Race (Dumjat ) organised by the club -A full report is already on the website

The Scottish Schools Primary Cross Country Championships in Kirkcaldy were we know Zoe Roberts finished 6th,  with the LAAA Track Relay Championships at Cumbernauld and the Scottish University Track & Field Championships at Grangemouth

This is first time the club has been at the Cumbernauld and we look forward to return to this fantastic venue. Seventeen teams competed over age groups from U11 to Senior with great success. The Senior Men A team claimed a double in the 4x100m and 4×400 with B team 2nd in the 4x 100m and 3rd in the 4x400m.The great work the sprint coaches are putting in is paying off. The U/13 girls also picked up two medals in the 3x 800m claiming the Gold and Bronze. The final medal of the day came in the U/11 4x100m.It was great to see so many teams out and a big thanks must go to Club president Elaine Mackay for pulling this together. Elaine missed the event as she was on International team management with the Scotland team at the London Mini Marathon. Full results will be available later this week. A big thanks to the parents who helped on the day and the coaches, Andrew Millican ,Tom Harrision, Gordon Bury and John Mackay who helped with the teams.

The London Marathon is always one of the highlights of the running calendar and the club has featured at the front in recent years. First British runners last year Weynay Ghebresilasie was a disappointed man, finishing 14th out of 48,000 runners in a time of 2.15.41. In recent weeks before the marathon Weynay has had to overcome a number of problems – illness and then two weeks ago a hamstring injury. Such is the high standards he has set, the fast time and silver medal in the Scottish championships run in London was a disappointment!

His club mates were putting a great effort behind him and we think they may have won the UK/Scottish Team titles subject to confirmation. Mark McKelvie smashed his PB with a run of 2.25.04 moving to 11th in the club all time lists. Fred Davis has spent the last 8 weeks with Weynay in Ethiopia preparing for London and again another athlete who smashed his PB with a run of 2.2707. Three other Shettleston members made the journey to London – Xun Zhang (3.28.14) ,Ben Fullarton (3.26.14) and Martyn Mullan (4.02.24)

Jamie Burns picked up a Silver medal over 1500m at Grangemouth on Saturday at the Scottish University Track and Field Championships.
