The highlights of the meeting was our two memorial races, The Derek McLean U/15 Boys 800m and The Adrian Callan U/15 Girls 800m races. The Derek McLean is in its 31st year of running and it has featured some of our best 800m who have gone to excel as seniors. This years race was a cracker with new boy on the scene, Joshua Mungen (Kilbarchan AAC), recording the fastest time in Scotland this year in a PB performance of 2.01.02. Calum Dick (Giffnock North) fresh from his win at the YA final in Manchester at the weekend took 2nd in a PB of 2.02.78. Kilbarchan supplied 3rd place athlete ,Alistair Street, who again recorded a PB of 2.03.98. With 5 of the 7 boys who started recording PB performances it was an indication of the quality of the race. Colin Hutchison (CEO of Scottish Athletics) made the presentation to the very happy boys on the evening.

In the first running of the Adrian Callan Memorial Race the club was delighted to welcome Adrian’s wife ,children and brother to the event. Anyone who knows anything about athletics in Scotland will know of Adrian’s contribution to the sport over many years. The club is delighted to organise this race and keep his memory alive. The race did not disappoint with 5 of the top ranked girls starting. Like the boy’s event, the fastest time for a Scottish U/15 girl was run. Lois Macrae made the long trip for Inverness over the two weeks to record yet another PB of 2.14.57 , being the first winner of the trophy. She was delighted to see the previous winner of the trophy was one Jake Wightman – who is he ? .The trophy previously been awarded to the Scottish U/20 1500m champion. Second place was Scarlett Wilson (Giffnock) 2.15.72 PB and 3rd place was taken by Hannah MacLeod (Falkirk VH) 2.15.90 PB. With 5 of the 7 starters recording PB performances it was again a measure of the quality of the race.
