Shettleston Harriers’ athletes could be found competing from Ben Nevis in the North to London in the South over the last two weeks
The Vitality London 1/2 Marathon saw the cream of British endurance runners take to the streets of the capital. Weynay Ghebresilasie, using the race as preparation for the London Marathon, placed 6th in a new PB performance of 63.39. He ran most of the race himself with a group breaking clear after putting in 4.23 mile. Sir Mo Farah winning the race in a time of 61.49 and Scotland’s Andrew Butchart 4th in a time of 62.59. This was Weynay’s first race for a few months and he will return to altitude on Monday for his final preparations for the marathon.
Moving north to Loughborough on Godwin Imante continued his impressive season winning the UK School Games title over 100m in a PB performance of 10.99. Later the same day he placed 3rd over 200m in a time of 22.47 . Even further north a group of Shettleston Harriers’ tackled the Ben Nevis Hill Race at Fort William. Congratulations to Catherine MacPhail who finished 2nd lady winning the prestigious Sandy MacFarlane Trophy

Kirsty Mann continued her improvements with another PB over 10km when she finished 2nd in the Bothwell 10km in a time of 41.28 .Joanne Harkins was 15th female. David Murphy (5hrs 31mins) completed his first ultra race in the Glencoe to Fort William 27 .4mile race – First advertised as a marathon but was over distance !
Teddy Tchoudja competing for Scotland in the England athletics throw competition finished her season with a throw of 13.77m at Moulton College.
On Friday 2nd September was the Livingston Open graded meeting where three athletes made the trip East
