Babcock Shettleston 10km at Glasgow Green

Moving to Sunday the club hosted the first Babcock 10km race of the series -The series  has been run for 41 years and over 10000 athletes have taken part. The club is very grateful to Babcock, Start Fitness, The Community Advertiser, Morrisons ,Tesco, Arnold Clark , Free Wheel North, St Andrews First Aid ,Raynet and Protay timing for their support. Our partners in the series Dumbarton AAC and Helensburgh help is essential to allow the series to run. It is a major effort for the club to put on this event and we want to thank all club members and club friends who helped to allow this to happen. The hot weather again was not kind to the athletes and no records were run over the flat and fast Glasgow Green course. Natasha Phillips (Dundee) led home Olympic athlete Sonia Samuels (Sale) with our own athlete Fionnuala Ross in 3rd place – Our ladies team of Fionnuala ,Victoria Riddell and Suzi Blake took the team prize. The men’s race was a lot closer with Lewis McAlpine  (Stornoway) just hold off our Taha Ghafari by 2 seconds, Stuart Donnachie took 3rd place -The men’s team of Taha, Paul Sorrie and Michael Paxton were 3rd. Again a host of other Shettleston athletes took part and full results can be found on https://protay.co.uk/.The next leg of the series moves to Dumbarton on the 23rd May – Not entered you still have time

Jamie Burns finished off his American experience over the weekend at the Summit League Outdoor T&F Championships in St Paul’s Minnesota. You do what your university asks in the USA and Jamie was tasked to run the 10000m (30.27 -6th ) and then a 5000m(14.57.66 -3rd) in a busy weekend. Jamie  is due home in the next few weeks and he will be a great addition to the club again
