The Inter-District Cross Country Championship is normally the first major competitive race of the new year. It was held on Saturday 14th of January at Scone Palace in Perthshire. The recent wet weather meant conditions were exceptionally muddy, favouring the cross country specialists.

First up for the day were the junior athletes, with a fine run in the U15’s for Katie Woods showing her continued strong form this cross country season. Matthew Fox in the U15M and Adam Clifford in the U17M also ran well. All three athletes should be very pleased with their runs, in what is one of the most competitive races on the calendar with only the best from each district selected!

U15 Girls

26th Katie WOODS 17:14

U15 Boys

38th Matthew FOX 15:39

U17 Men

66th Adam CLIFFORD 24:43

We had good representation in the senior categories for both ladies and men. The senior ladies have had a brilliant season so far, and this was continued today with four of our athletes being selected to run. First home was Fionnuala Ross in 2nd place, a fantastic run showing her calibre and gave eventual winner Megan Keith a close battle. An excellent run from Aoife Carr in 21st place, with strong performances from Ruth Joss and Hannah Terrance also. The West district team achieved a bronze medal in a race full of talent and ability.

Full Results:

2              Fionnuala ROSS                 2             WEST                   29:12

21           Aoife CARR                         17          WEST                   31:13

36           Ruth JOSS                            25          WEST                   32:24

49           Hannah TERRANCE          32          WEST                   33:18

The senior men’s race was equally thrilling, with eventual winner Jamie Crowe showing his return from long term injury is going very well. Lachlan Oates had an excellent run to come home first for the West team in 4th place overall (3rd in the district championship). Ross Gollan running for the North district was next in 9th, with Taha Ghafari and Jamie Burns running each other close (as they do in training) in 10th/11th respectively. Four Shettleston athletes in the top dozen is an impressive statistic and bodes well in the lead up to the Scottish National Cross County Championship in February. The West team for the men also won a bronze medal in the district championships.

Full Results:

4              Lachlan OATES                  3             WEST                   25:28

9              Ross GOLLAN                     8             NORTH                25:56

12           Jamie BURNS                     11          STUD                   26:00

By all accounts the weather held out for the racing, but many warm downs were abandoned due to the rain fall immediately after the senior men finished. Much like the Stone of Destiny, they were scone!!!
