Day 1 of Scottish Athletics West District Championships and SA Open saw a raft of PB performances from Shettleston athletes and a number of medals travelling to the East End. The weather could have been better with a wind speed of over -3m/s against the runners in the home straight. The sun did shine in Kilmarnock and the club tent set up at 7.30am by Gary Woods was appreciated by all the parents and athletes. The club would like to thank all the officials, coaches and parents who travelled to Kilmarnock -we can’t operate without your help !

The 100m series saw a gold medal for U/17 Imante Gkontouin (11.58secs – Heat 11.42PB) and two other athletes, Michael Conteh(3rd and bronze medal) 12.23 (Heat 12.21) and Maynard Conteh (4th) 12.32 (12.17PB – Heat) in the final

U/15 100m – Club members Jonathan Hooper 2nd (12.12) and Ashtin Coutts 8th (13.69) both placing in the final with Jonathan picking up the silver medal.

U/15 100m -Avia Millican 14.46 and Emily Tollett 15.52

U/13 100m – Lucas Millican 16.73 and Daisy Gildea 15.89

U 15 300m – Ava Millican had a fantastic run in the final to smash her PB, finishing 4th in a time of 44.82 .This time moves her into the top 20 in Scotland over the distance.

The 800m series saw a number of athletes breaking their PB ‘s in difficult windy conditions. Over the coming months these times are all set to be improved .

U/13 Daisy Gildea set the ball rolling with a PB of 2.45.11 

The U/13 boys followed with Lucas Millican taking off a massive 13 secs of his PB running 2.47.43 finishing 3rd in his race Sam McGowan on the recovery from his recent injury running 2.53.93.

U/15 800m – Katie Woods running a strong race finished 2nd in the final collecting the silver medal in a time of 2.25.03 PB. Matthew Fox was unlucky not to collect a medal finishing 4th in his final in a time of 2.12.48PB- Great improvements from these young athletes.

U/17 800m – Like his training partner Matthew Fox, Adam Clifford was unlucky not to collect a medal finishing 4th in a highly competitive race in a PB performance 2.10.52

A number of field events athletes also competed , in the U15 Shot Amy MacCallum(6.59) and Olivia Kilpatrick(4.27) competing at this level for the first time.

Day 2 West District Championships and SA Open

In the first event of the day Joseph Reilly competed in the 1500m Steeplechase for the first time and came away with a bronze medal finishing 3rd in a time of 5.28.70

Imante Gkontouin  made it a double with another PB over 200m winning the gold medal in a legal time of 22.80.

Chloe Fox claimed her first District medal finishing 2nd with a PB in the U/15 Javelin of 26.39m 

Jonathan Hooper, competing for his school, picked up the silver medal in the U/15 200m (23.85)  and the gold medal win the long jump with a jump of 5.59m, team mate, Ashtin Coutts, was 2nd in the long jump with a jump 4.64 to pick up the silver medal

Morgan Findlay, competing at the SA Open at Grangemouth, was 2nd in the Triple Jump with a season best of 11.02m

On the back of his Scotland selection along with Mark Dry (Hammer) and Teddy Tchoudja (Shot)  Angus McInroy scored a double win in the Shot 14.58 and Discus 48.60

Again, Shettleston athletes were competing across the UK with Fionnuala Ross just missing out on her PB over 10000m at the Highgate Night of 10000m ,her time was 33.57.02.

Peter Avent travelled to Chester to compete in the 1/2 Marathon and finished 3rd in a time of 68.22 -He was slightly disappoint having to stop twice with stomach cramp. He is due to compete in the Edinburgh marathon on the 29th May 

Parkrun results 

Firstly it was north to Aviemore which is very popular for its outdoor sports over winter and summer. Calum Oates took first place . Well done !

Meanwhile at Strathclyde Parkrun it was good to see Kenny Richmond back coming home strong in 6th position.

Denis Williams was also back in action with a steady run at Victoria Park along with Andrew Shields

Alness Parkrun saw Bryony McLeod finish 3rd woman. Alness is a small town near Inverness famed for its floral displays and various awards over the years.

Jessica Grant took 3rd women at Drumpellier Parkrun. The course is partly within forest trails and is ideal when the conditions are windy and wet. 

Finally at Queens Parkrun, Chris Pantrey ensured the hill running domination endured with first place following Tom Owens victory the previous week.
