Snowdon Mountain Race

The star of the weekend must be Ross Gollan who continues his return from injury with an excellent win in the International  Snowdon Mountain Race in Wales. This is a ten-mile race with 1085m(3560Ft) of climbing before you come down again. Ross won the race from Luca Melli ( Italy) and Nathan Edmondson( England) -Fantastic running.

England Athletics Under 20 Championships

Further South Teddy Tchoudja travelled to Bedford with coach, John Scott, to compete in the English U/20 Championships. She was rewarded with a silver medal in the Shot with a putt of 14.39m

SIAB Schools International T&F Competition

Young Gkontouin (Godwin) Imante made his international debut in Ireland this weekend. Fantastic story for this young man who travelled from Greece over a year ago with no English having spending a number of years there after his mother left her native Nigeria. What progress he has made under the excellent coaching of Gordon Bury. He place 5th in a very close race with 0.08 separating 2nd to 5th in a race won by the English athlete Yaw Mensah(10.97), Godwin recorded a PB of11.08. Elaine Mackay, our club president, was on duty as part of the management team of the Scottish School’s team at the event at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast. 

Combined League

The 4th Joint League Meeting took place at Grangemouth on Sunday. Thank you to the officials who gave up their Sunday to allow our athletes to compete.

Chris Bennett put in his final preparations for the Commonwealth Games with an excellent 71.96m in the Hammer. Master athlete, David Little, recording a season best of 47.11m. in the same event.

Morgan Finlay returned after injury to jump 10.97m in the TJ and placed second.

Gordon Bury’s Sprint group is growing and with the other sprinters we saw 6 Shettleston athletes toe the line in the 200m races

The final event of the day was the 4x100m and it gave the U/17’s an opportunity to run the relay before the championships later this year .Their time was 46.41secs and the team was the Conteh brothers, Maynard an Michael,Cole Kilpatrick and Ethan Ofoegbu

 ParkRuns

At Pollok Parkrun, Andrew Shields was in 11th place with Ben Fullarton in 46th place after a period of injury.

At Ellington Parkrun in Irvine, James Burns finished in 4th place in a time of 20.52. The course is a mixture of trails and road.

Up the West Coast to Greenock parkrun where Marc McColl finished in 6th place. It was also a featured event for the Bellahouston Harriers race calendar who turned up in large numbers.

Down the West Coast to Troon Parkun where Kirsty Mann continues to improve with 2nd female. Very similar to Greenock Parkrun the course is run along the promenade. Well done Kirsty.

Meanwhile Fergus Donnelly continues to enjoy his vacation in Australia whilst adding the odd parkrun in. Another win at the Curl Curl Parkrun. Well done Fergus !

At Victoria Parkun, fast times are always rewarded with the sheltered conditions with a fine win for Mark McKelvie under 16 min. Amy Maclellan did well to finish 5th lady and 35th overall.

At Springburn parkrun, Katie Woods nearly broke 20 min and took first female and 22nd overall. Katie has been training hard at the club sessions and is great to see the hard work paying off.

At the Jersey Parkun, Jethro Lennox finished second with Rowan in a time of 28.15.

At Drumpelier Parkrun, Kenny McCoy finished in 7th place

It was then over to the Isle of Harris, Stornoway where Brian Scally finished in the top ten in 7th place overall.

The recently established Elder Parkrun, continues to attract runners for its flat course in pursuit of fast times. Russ Joss was 3rd overall and first female under 19min. Well done to Ruth.

Finally at Largs Parkrun it was good to see Erin Ellor finish 2nd female in a time of 24.04 and 13th overall.

Club members are also welcome to send in their photographs from parkruns and especially if they have their club vest on.
