It was great to see Schools Athletics National Championships Taking place after the last few years of COVID. In the last few weeks the club has been supporting athletics at District level as schools get into the swing of our sport. It is a pity events like the Glasgow School Athletic Championships have not taken place this year to allow  our new athletes to take the first step into competition but the club continues to give this opportunity in a variety of events.

Grangemouth on Day 1 of the Scottish School Championships saw excellent performances  from young Shettleston athletes representing their schools.

Jonathan Hooper took Gold in the Group C Long Jump with a PB of 5.79 with Callum Thomson finishing 7th in 5.25m. Fellow club member, Imante Gkontouin, taking silver in the Group B 100m with a time of 11.10 Wind 0.0. An excellent performance and a PB which hopefully will see him pick for the Schools international later this summer.

Godwin’s 100m Silver

Chloe Fox continues to improve and picked up another championship medal in yet another PB performance of 26.99. She took bronze in the Group C Javelin. Another young athlete shining at the moment is Abraham Lanahan, who followed up his Scottish Schools pentathlon medal last weekend, finishing 3rd in the group D 200m in a time of 26.75 wind 1.2.

The 800m races in windy conditions were contested by Matthew Fox who place 8th in the Group C event. Katie Woods in Group C just missed out in the final of her event placing 10th overall (2.28.85) running a solo race in her heat.
