It was a silver lining for the club at the first race of the winter season .The George Cummings Relay now serves as the opening with the loss of the McAndrew Relay. Two strong Kilbarchan teams took first place in the ladies and the men’s events with Shettleston occupying second in both races.

Leg one was a team mangers worse fears as the B runner for the club ( Lewis Raeburn 13.05) finished 2nd, 5 places in front of A runner, Matthew Turner (13.25). Such was the measure of Lewis’ run he placed in the top 10 fastest times of the day and second U/20 time. He was in good company with three former Olympic athletes not too far in front of him. It was a great turn out for the club with four men’s team and one
ladies team starting the race .

The A team for the club was Tsegai Tewelde ( 12.44 2nd fastest of the day), Weynay Ghebreslassie (12.47 3rd fastest of the day) and Tewodle Mengisteab (13.17) and Matthew,  in spite of this strong team Kilbarchan with the help of Derek Hawkins took 1st place with an excellent team performance.

A young B team of Lewis ,Jamie Burns ( 13.22) ,William Bardsley(13.33) and not so young Paul Sorrie ( 13.38 ) finished 4th nearly 2minutes faster than last year when they finished 7th.

The C team of Brian McGarrity (13.47), Dan Lowe(14.57), Gary Turner(16.09) and Richard Milliar(18.32) performed well .

The Masters team of Denis Williams( 15.19), Brian Scally (15.22), Billy Coyle(15.47) and Mark McColl finished 3rd

Not to be undone the ladies team of Avril Mason(15.10), Kathyrn Pennel( 16.06) and Jessica Martin (16.26) finished 2nd again behind a very strong Kilbarchan team .

Next week see us return to Cross Country with the West District Cross County Relays returning to the testing course at the iconic Cross Country Venue at the Irvine Beach Park.

We understand that Paul Sorrie and Mark McColl were competing for the 2nd day in a row at the Linlithgow 10K but no results yet.
