The London Marathon is considered one of the top City Marathons in the world and this year did not disappoint. Callum Hawkins fantastic run and new Scottish record was a spring board for many Scottish performances.

Shettleston Harriers contributed to this over a number of age groups. In the Elite Race Tsegai Tewelde returned to London but there was no fairy tale return as he faded after running 64.42 for the first half to finish 29th in 2.17.00

Running his first marathon, Weynay Ghebresilasie finished 1st in a time of 2. 17.21  in the non elite start and with his club mate, Ben Johnston ( running for his English club),  3rd in 2.20.03. Avril Mason just goes from strength to strength and again another PB performance and new Club Women Marathon Record when taking first place in the W45-50 age group in an excellent time of 2.43.54. Avril finished 14th overall in the non-elite race.

Other Shettleston athletes were pounding the streets of London with US member Jordan Anderson running 2.32.39, Peter Mackie 2.40.22 ,Brian Scally 2.49.10, and Richard Millar 3.44.06 (PB).

Club member, David Smith , made the trip to Hamburg to compete also over the Marathon distance running 3.28.01 on Sunday 28th April

Closer to home we had 4 athletes in the Stirling 1/2 marathon on Sunday
