Birmingham has been the venue for some top performances by Shettleston athletes over the last few weeks .
At the British Masters Championships Carson Graham came away with a seasons best jump (5.99) and the Gold medal in the M40 Long Jump event, it was a great effort for Carson after hurting his calf the previous week in the men’s league match. He was joined in Birmingham by Brian Scally who finished 6th in 1500m ( 4.39.50) and 5th in the 5000m (17.09.55) in M50 age group. Brian followed this by taking 1st in the 800m (2.17.20) and 1500m (4.36.11) at the Scottish Masters Championships at Grangemouth. James Burns was also amongst the medals in the M60 age group winning the 800m( 2.27.47) and 3rd in the 1500m(5.19.04). Some of the older members will remember James from the 70’s where he was one of the top steeplechasers in Scotland.
His younger club mate Lachlan Oates was in action this weekend in the British Championships at Birmingham where he placed 12th in the Chase ( 9.07.68) after leading through the first 1000m in 2.56. Lachlan then went on to record a PB for the 5000m when he ran to finish 2nd in a time of 14.13.94 at the Loughbrough BMC meeting on 8th July
Angus McInroy was also in action finishing 13th in the Discus with a throw of 47.52 .
Our two top hammer throwers Chris Bennett and Mark Dry were also in action at the British Championship Mark winning the battle of the Shettleston men by one cm to come 3rd with a distance of 70.51m to Chris’s 70.50 to finish 4th.

Other events over the last few weeks
David Woods and Lewis Raeburn headed for Linwood for the Open Graded event .Lewis had a fantastic run to move to number 3 in the Scottish rankings with a time of 9.00.59mins over 3000m.Young David is moving closer to 2.30 for 800m with a time of 2.33.62. David continued his recent good form by recording a PB in the 1500m in a time of 5.07.59 at Grangemouth on 5th July.
Kirkintilloch was the venue for their 10km .Shettleston athletes were in the prizes with Kenney Richmond switching from the hills to
take the masters prize when finishing 6th over all in a time of 34.20.Duncan McCauley finished 24th ( 37.48)and Colin Stewart (55.25)
In the South of England Ben Johnson set another PB when winning the BMC event in Eltham in a time of 14.48.35 .Ben is hoping to do the Great Scottish run in October so it will be great to see him back in Glasgow.
David Martin continued the club’s international feel finishing 10th in a Long Jump event (7.10) in Copenhagen Denmark.
Meanwhile last Sunday saw the Men’s Track and Field Team finished 4th and still leading the league by 3 match points going in to the last match in August, see link for full results
