Mark Dry got Team Scotland off to a great start on Day One of the athletics at Carrara Stadium, winning the bronze in the Hammer to add to his bronze from Glasgow 2014. His throw of 73.12 was a seasons best and the delight on his face is clear to see. He has been up against it in recent years losing his UK athletics funding and having to endure two operations to his hip. Everyone in the club send their congratulations to him. On the other hand all members will feel the pain of Chris Bennett as he failed to produce his best in the final. His distance of 65.22 was well below his recent throws of over 75m .This happens in athletics and we hope to see him back to his best on his return home.

A name not too well know to club members will be Neah Evans. She competed on the hills, cross country and the road for the club a few years ago. Neah also had an interest in cycling and after finishing her vet studies in Glasgow she was asked to try out for the elite cycle centre in Manchester. Roll on one year and she claimed a bronze behind Katie Archibald (the daughter of a former Scottish 1500m champion) in the 25km points race. Neah went one better on Sunday when she won the sliver in the 10k Scratch Race. Congratulations to her from everyone in the club.

Closer to home a number of our student athletes took part in the Round the Houses 10km event in Grangemouth which included the Students championships. New member Gavyn Chalmers (32.36) took the title just in front of Alastair Thurlbeck (32.48) with the men finishing 3rd and 4th in the open race. John Duffy also competed finishing 4th M50 in a time of 38.15 after dancing the night away the previous evening at Marc McColl’s 40th birthday party!

Another new member Katrina Ballantyne finished 3rd in the students championships in a time of 38.24 and 11th in the open race.

Further afield Ben Johnson produced a great performance to finish 2nd in the Asics Great Manchester Marathon in a time of 2.25.03.He was pleased with his run after having injury trouble last month .
