Jamie Burns and Lewis Raeburn did their club proud by clinching Gold and Bronze at the U/17 Scottish National 3000m Championships. Both boys ran PB performances of 9.01.56 and 9.11.08,  only being split by Drew Pollok of Cambuslang. The GAA Miler Meeting at Scotstoun was the venue for this highly successful meeting . Both boys have just finished their SQA exams this week  and put the strain of the last few weeks behind them to show the results of some solid training and hard work.

The meeting at Scotstoun gave some of other athletes the opportunity to compete in a high quality event . Callum Drummond, was in Ireland last weekend running for the Scottish Students Team, was up against some of the top 800m runners in Scotland at Scotstoun. Running in the A event he ran 1.55.33. Paul Sorrie competed in two events recording 2.08.47(800m)  and 9.16.14(3000m). Scottish Masters champion Brian Scally recorded 2.17.53 for a season best over 800m. Kevin Slaven in his first 3000m of the year ran 10.36.52.

Last weekend two of our athletes made the journey to Manchester to compete at the BMC Sportscity Games. Top ranked 3000m Steeplechase athlete, Lachlan Oates, finished 2nd (8.58.40) and Mike Deason, currently ranked 2nd in Scotland, finished 5th (9.19.35) in a high quality race.

Ben Johnson continues to improve after his call up for England – Running the Vitality London 10km last weekend he smashed his PB to record a time of 30.26 finishing 12th in a race won by Andrew Butchart of Central AC. Ben has made massive improvements in all his times since spending time in Glasgow .When ask how he replied “no secrets or rocket science! 2-3 sessions a week ,with a mix of track, tempo and hills,80-90miles per week and eating, drinking, resting better has made the difference” – Endurance runners take note !

Over the next few weeks our young athletes will competing in their County and National School Championships as we move to the summer break for schools. Please let us know how you get on. One recent results was David Woods who finished second over 1500m at the Lanarkshire Schools Championships .
