Shettleston athletes were well represented at the first UK international meeting of the year .Two of our Olympic athletes had a battle royal in the Hammer with Mark Dry just piping Chris Bennett by 1cm to win in a distance of 71.73m. Great start to the season by both boys as they target the World Championships in London later this year. Another of our Commonwealth athlete, Gus McInroy, finished 4th in the Discus with a season best as he gets closer to the Commonwealth qualifying distance. His distance of 53.18 was a season best. The final athlete to compete in the match was Lachlan Oates who smashed his PB and moved to 3rd over all in the club rankings in the 3000m Steeple Chase. His time of 8.52.33 moved him to number one in the Scottish rankings and into the top 10 in the UK.
Closer to home Tewodle Mengisteab had a easy win in the Carluke 10km. Two of our club members made the trip through to Stirling to test the new Marathon course. Stephen Winters made the top 100 finishing 67th with a time of 2.59.51 .Richard Millar also competed finishing 1649 in a field of over 6000.
Ben Johnson again showed why he has been selected to run for England later this year when he smashed his PB for 10000m at Night of 10000m at Highgate .His time of 30.40.21 also secured first place in his race. This show of basic pace over shorter distances will surely help him in his marathon later this year.
