This weekend saw Glasgow holding one of the biggest mass running events in the country, Friday saw our primary schools at Glasgow Green running the Great Scottish Primary School Run, Super Saturday saw our young athletes competing with our Senior athletes competing Sunday at the 1/2 Marathon and the 10k.

Firstly let start on Sunday. Over 50 senior athletes competed over the 10km/1/2marathon events. Full results can be found on the Great Scottish Run web site.

There was plenty of highlights with Fionnuala Ross winning the Scottish 1/2 Marathon Women’s title and finish 4th overall in the international field in a PB performance of 74.11. Not be undone her club mate, Avril Mason, took the Women’s Master Championships in finishing 10th female overall and 6th UK athlete. Early indications suggest the men won the team title for the 9th time in the last 10 years, fantastic achievement. Tsegai Tewedle was first home for the club in 6th place 65.30, winning the silver medal in the Scottish Championships,  followed by Waynay Ghebresilassie (10th) 66.58 and Mike Deason (18th) 70.23.

The 1/2 marathon was contested by 23 club members with 10 in the first 100 and age ranges from early 20’s  to O/75 vet ,John Scott. Richard Mllar had an interesting double, running the 10km first and then sprinting back to do the 1/2 marathon !!!

The 10km event was also a good event for the club with 31 athletes competing and showcasing some of the younger athletes in the club. Daniel Bradford made the podium in 3rd place behind Adam Craig ( Edinburgh AC) who won the event.

Lewis Raeburn (8th 32.25) ,Matthew Turner (9th 32.36) and Jamie Burns (11th 32.52) all produced PB performances to be at the front end of the race .Other confirmed PB performances came from Chris Lipman (32 34.39) and Andrew Gibson (49 35.41)

New member Jenny Martin finished 10th female just in front of Jessica Martin (11th)and Kathryn Pennel (12th ) An interesting athlete for the club was former Scottish Shot Putt Champion, Allan Mackay, running his first 10km in a respectable 47mins 41secs

The weekend kicked off on Friday at Glasgow Green when nearly 3000 Primary School children ran round the iconic Park. A number of club members were running for their schools , Sienna Lamont, Alicja Taborek, Matthew Collins and Ruairidh Collins all ran well and while we do not have official results we know Sienna finished 4th with all the other club members running really well. If you know any other club members who ran please let us know.

On Saturday the action moved to George Square for Super Saturday for the 2.5k Junior Run. The high finisher on the day was David Woods who ran 9.35 (PB) in 12th place and was chased the whole way by Johnny Burns who also smashed his PB by running 9.38 (14th). Elsie Hollywood was the top finishing girl running 10.44 (PB) in 16th place, next was Jessica Grant in 34th (11.24 PB). In the 9 to 11 year old Girls Race Katie Woods was 24th, Chloe Fox 40th, Amelia Roberts 43th, Katie Burns 92nd (PB), Rosie Burns was 155th and ran an outstanding race taking 3mins 6 sec off her last year time to record 17.48, well done Rosie.

Matthew Fox was first club finisher (27th) in his race running 11.35, Adam Clifford was 29th, Joseph Reilly 75th, Ben McLuskey 77th, Matthew Collins 119th and Ruairidh Collins 207th.
