Lachlan Oates ( C :Bobby Gavin ) continued his golden run of form when he took the Scottish 5km Road Championships on Friday evening. Following on from his great run at the Scottish 10000m Championships he ran a PB performance on the roads of 14.36, other club members to toe the line were Gavyn Chalmers 15th (15.19),Alastair Thurlbeck 26th
(15.38) and Lucas Cheskin 56th (16.04).
Moving on to Saturday the club made the return to Division 1 of the Scottish Men’s League .With our resources stretched to the maximum due to a clash of fixtures, British League ,5km championships and British Students Championships, 5th place was a great result. Hero’s of the day include Carson Graham and David Little picking up great points over a number of events. Special mention to Andy Jackson and Lewis Raeburn who both ran PB’s in the 400H and Steeplechase. Every athlete made a great effort covering as many events as possible to help to ensure our position in the top division. Next match is on the 10th June is Aberdeen. In the British League Match at Yeovill two Shettleston Members were involved with Team Glasgow – Mike
Deason who followed up his win at the Troon 10km on Thursday evening with a win in
the Steeplechase (9.40.68) and a 8.59.83 3000m. Second claim member Amit Kumar competed
in three events -High Jump 1.85 ,110m Hurdles 19.48 and Triple Jump 12.19
In the Premier League event Angus McInroy competed in the Javelin (29.63), Discus (50.88) and Shot (13.22) with David Martin jumping 7.22 in the Long Jump.
Following on for the success of Mike Deason at Troon we also had the winner in the Ladies Race the shape of Avril Mason (36.33).Denis Williams also competed (37.22) finishing 2nd in M50 age group .
Also competing over 10km this weekend was Brian Scally who travelled to Birmingham to compete for the Celtic Masters against England. Brian finished 71st ( 36.45) and 7th M50 in a field of over 2000 runners.
